I haven't been to the movies in years but I am strongly tempted now simply because I am interested in seeing 3:10 to Yuma. This interest stems from my love of the original with Glenn Ford and Van Heflin.
The original 3:10 movie made me realize that black and white film making is an art in itself and served as a vehicle to enhance the strong plot of this film. The original 3:10 to Yuma had some violence but the true interest in the film lay in the relationship between Heflin and Ford. It searched for, and found, the best in its main characters and left us with a good feeling at the end along with a bit of hope to take with us. It is my strong hope that the remake of this truly classic western has not fallen prey to the thirst for violence that seems to have gripped America's movie goers today, or the whole message in 3:10 will be lost and the remake of a great film will simply disappear into the trash can of multiple homicide celluloid and be forgotten. Should 3:10 disappoint, I suggest watching the original: it won't. |
