This has gotten to be the saddest story of them all. Not even his own people support for his return back to his land. How sad is that.. that tells you how the Spanish and English speaking people were able to do what they did to the Native Americans. The fact is, wrong or right, the mans remains are not where there supposed to be.. and if in fact they were stolen and Yale has them, then its the moral thing to do and return them... and the Mescalero Apache's don't want them, or Ft. Sill don't want them, then they should be returned to his family.. Plain and simple... Really should there be any argument about this? Does Yale Skull & Bones have a right to them? Isn't robbery still robbery 100 years ago the same as today? C'mon all you Conservative hypocrits ! speak out.. Wrong is still wrong......

Original Duke: Ihear ya!! I can't understand why on earth Ft. Sill would benefit in any way by protesting. The only desecration here is by Skull & Bones. Those spoiled Yale frat brats need to GROW THE HECK UP and do the right thing just because it's the right thing to do and be done with it...!!!!!

Agree with the first two comments. His remains, wherever they are should be returned to his family. From what I recall from what I have read, is that he was from the southwest area of NM, southeastern AZ and even was in Mexico at various times in his life. What the US did to the native peoples would be considered war crimes now, I think. Funny though that all these various Apache groups are arguing with one another. Human nature, I guess. Hope this can be resolved so the remains receive a proper burial or whatever.

Fort Sill doesn't have any more right to protest about Geronimo remains that say Auschwitz would have to demand the return of the Jews they murdered there.

Geronimo died of pneumonia on February 17, 1909 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and was buried at the Apache Indian Prisoner of War Cemetery there.

someone explain to me how a prisoner of war camp has the right to refuse to return the remains of a dead prisoner to their families?

As for the white bread Yale frat boys playing games with Geronimo's skull they should all be hauled off tried for the crime of desecrating a grave site then throw in jail themselves... lets see if their fat cat Banker daddy's can justify using some of the bailout money they keep bagging for to get their brats of trouble...

I agree with all the comments above. Every time I hear someone complain about racism in America with slavery etc.. I get so angry because my people (I am Navajo/Apache) were treated horrible by the whites. My mother was forced to go to a boarding school away from the reservation and her family and was forced to speak English and forbidden to speak her native language. If she did she was beat. My grandpa used to tell stories of rotten food that the government gave them in return for the land they stole. The government has ruined the once proud Native Americans! Come to my reservation and see just how much government dependence ruined natives.
Let Geronimo go back to his family - to our family. Yes, I am a descendant of Geronimo.

They should give back Geronimo's remains to the family so they could give him a proper burial. 100 years later we should be past racism and punishment against Geronimo, his tribe and the Native Americans.

Boy, I get so tired of hearing white people telling Indian people how to think. When Indians don't have the opinions these white people believe they should, then they say it's the fault of other white people for brainwashing them. Do you really believe Indians too stupid and childish to think for themselves? Why do they have to think as you do?

Most traditional Apache folks I know are opposed to moving the grave, especially from a sanctified Apache cemetery to a tourist site where the Apache no longer live. Why aren't you willing to respect the informed opinions of the mainstream Apache community?

Bring back Geronimo's remains and rest him into the soil of his birth. This fussing is for fools and Sir Geronimo would send an arrow into some's "coma se llamos" if he knew what these "idle" idiots are doing.....

Who cares? I, San Carlos Apache, admire him for his leadership/fighting abilities; but he was also a monster! Old people on the rez say: that many times if he liked women he saw he would just take and rape them. And I don't believe he became this way because the Mexicans killed his family. I think he was always cruel & vicious. I know I shouldn't use this as part of the argument, but he did have other wives and children at the same time.(P.S. This does not mean I'm against polygamy; sometimes it's necessary/practical. I, myself, have thought how much easier life would have been if I had had 3-5 husbands at the same time. For sure much more would have been accomplished, & I'd be further ahead in my goals.)

Bush=white man = progress = TIVO VS Geronimo = stone age...let's see now, which will I choose??? It's so JUICY to be able to push "forward" when Barbara Wa Wa opens her mouth! This is one Navajo-Apache who loves PROGRESS. There was a war. We lost. Period. To the VICTOR GO THE SPOILS.
