A million dollars spent for seeds will reap benefit for a lifetime. How about we address the cause of hunger rather than the symptoms. Sam Kinison said it best: "See this? This is SAND. Nothing grows in sand. Move to where the food is!"

I do not understand why this angers everyone. It is her money. And as for other celebs, lots of them donate to the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. When was the last time you voluntarily invested your time or money to improve the lives of your fellow Americans? Put yourself out there before you criticize someone's generosity, I dare you.

12th century Spanish doctor/philosopher Moses ben Maimon (also known as Maimonides) devised 8 steps on the ladder of giving, from the lowest to the highest. You may start at step 1 but should aspire to step 8:
1. Giving begrudgingly 2. Giving less than you should, but giving it cheerfully 3. Giving after being asked 4. Giving before being asked 5. Giving when you do not know the recipient’s identity, but the recipient knows yours 6. Giving when you know the recipient, but the recipient does not know your identity 7. Giving when neither party knows the other’s identity 8. Enabling the recipient to become self-reliant

well the good news is now i can stop sending all of my left overs to kenya that i wasn't able to finish since she'll be able to feed them.....
note to self: send stop payment on future donations since d.b. has me covered....
Since I was thinking about giving, can i deduct that from my taxes? after all it is the thought that counts....

Did Drew HAVE to give the money in such a public way? Probably. It is publicity. Helping out without making a fuss is truly giving.

My gosh, a lot of people on here really do not understand the concept of giving. Who really cares if the rich and famous donate for tax purposes or publicity. Maybe the point of giving publicly by people that have loads of money is to show that yes the rich do in fact make charitable donations. Maybe it is to bring attention to a cause that they care about. To the person that said "Truly giving people don't want the attention, she is garbage." Why don't you try reading my mind and tell me what I think about you and your comment? You don't know the motivation behind other people, you can only make assumptions. Goodness who is the naive one here? Drew Barrymore is a Great Woman despite the mistakes she has made in her life, not one person can say they haven't made mistakes of their own. That's just how people are; we make mistakes and hopefully learn from them and don't make them twice. The rich and famous are imperfect too, why do you all insist holding them up to greater standards than you have for yourself? And I do agree we should focus more attention on the needy families of America too.
Peace Out! ;o)

Poor in America

Let's face it. Drew gave the money to Africans to get on Oprah's good side. Having crazy drunk parents, Drew has always been drawn to older people that make her feel wanted.
Someone needs to sit down and explain to Drew that there are alot of very poor white kids in America - hence, the phrase "poor white trash." Just as Oprah is leading an effort to help her own, and just as every other ethnic group works to help their own, it would be nice if some of the wealthy white Hollywood elites would help their own.
But that's not trendy, that's not cool, so it ain't gonna happen. Look at the lives of so many poor white children in this country - they aren't any better than those of other ethnicities and yet they receive no aid, no outreach, no nothing.
Thanks Drew!
