Concert Review | CSO: Reeves submerges herself too much | The C...

Full story: Columbus Dispatch

Singer Dianne Reeves did a decent job in conjuring the spirit of "Sassy" last night in a concert with the Columbus Symphony at a much-less-than-full Veterans Memorial.

I attended the concert and completely agree with this reviewer. I love to hear scat; but there was entirely too much.
Saturday was my first time attending a concert at Veteran's Memorial. I don't like the venue at all. The sound system is poor. Because all the speakers are located on or next to the stage, the sound comes at you; I felt like I was watching a concert on TV instead of attending one. Additionally, the speakers' volume was too low. Thankfully, that was rectified about 2 songs into Ms. Reeves' set.
Ms. Reeves sounded great and it seemed like she was enjoying herself. But that energy did not transfer to the audience. I feel like the inadequate sound system was a big part of that.

Remaining behind the conductor was a huge mistake and those of us on the right side of the theater suffered greatly---we couldn't see her most of the time...just a disembodied voice with occasional glimpses of her. Had she only stepped forward to sing to the audience, we would have gotten the (65.00 ticket) price of entertainment.
The seats at Vets are abominable; patrons sit way too low and the seats would benefit from a stadium seating arrangement with a gradual slope upward. Then taller persons in the front rows would not block shorter ones behind them.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Libra

It's one of those difficult days when anything can and will happen. Someone you were relying on might let you down, plans could be changed at the eleventh hour or a machine could go on the blink. To make matters worse, your energy levels are very erratic, so you feel full of beans one minute and ready to go to sleep the next. Don't make the situation worse by eating foods that give you a high followed by a slump.
