Trombone Shorty steals the show at Monterey Jazz Festival

You article got it right, not only did Trombone Shorty and Olrleans Avenue, steal the show, the wrapped in up in a musical package of Supafunk memory and gave us who where there a gift we will treasure for years. Incredible. He owned the Festival

The reason you and everyone elese loved Trombone Shorty so muc was because the Jazz Festival is BORING! He was the only performer who knows how to play what WHItE PEOLPE like. Medleys of recognizable songs played with mucho gusto. He is a showman and a crowd pleaser. The rest of the Jazz Fest acts will put you to sleep. I have a feeling the the Monterey Jazz Fest will slowly (remember, this is a "serious" music festival) go in the direction of the hugely popluar New Orleans Jazz & Hertitage festival. Big acts outside of the jazz vein will be welcomed and loved. Trombone Shorty helped set a new direction to a tired lineup.

Did you attend the jazz festival? Because I would have to say you're wrong. Especially that comment about what white people like. I'm white. You do NOT speak for me. Your comments are ridiculously insulting.

Thank you, Tim Jackson, for always giving us a wonderful surprise every year. Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue had more energy and talent than anyone I have heard in years. Saturday afternoon has traditionally been more blues and rock than the rest of the festival. Thanks for not changing that. When a 23 year old and his band can get a 56 year old woman like me getting my funky side on, it's alright with me.

Yup! Trombone Shorty blew the doors off the Arena yesterday. Not only was his personal performance one of the best I've EVER seen and heard but his group rocked the house. Just plain FUNKY!!
Such a great talent wrapped in such a young audience friendly guy. I can't wait to get some of his tunes.
As for the MJF...I'll be happy to have the chance to volunteer again for years to come. Gotta go now...gonna see Harry!

I saw them both...and as good as Shorty was, Delbert always steals it for me. The man has a gift.

Shorty is going to have a great career - but Delbert is still at the top of his game and his band is the best in the world.

Shorty is a great horn player and singer. the music was your basic dirty dozen jazz band on steroids mixing R&B ,jazz and funk . Good dance music, but we were packed into the garden stage like sardines with people even crawling up into the trees to listen. Saturday the grounds were way too crowded.
Ahmad jamal , Septeto nacional de cuba , Chick Corea , angelique kidgo, Dianne Reeves, Sachel vasandani, Roy Hargrove and the Berkeley school band were awesome. Sorry I missed Delbert and some others.

I love jazz and go to the Monterey Jazz Festival every year. I'm not much of a blues fan, so I just tolerate it during the Saturday afternoon Garden Stage performances. But, a year or two ago, when Ruthie Foster performed, I had a change of heart. When Trombone Shorty performed, even though he added some famiiliar R & B tunes, I loved his energy and appreciate New Orleans jazz much more now. By the way, I was there when the fellow behind me threw the condom on stage when Shorty was singing Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On", so Beth, you must have been standing/sitting right next to me. Also, Beth, my birthday is Sept 17, so, like you, I celebrate my birthday every year at the Jazz Festival too. Happy Birthday to you too!!!
