TLC's 'Flip That House' highlights risks of turnover, too

Full story: Chicago Tribune

As the credits roll on my umpteenth viewing of the 25-year-old classic Eddie Murphy - Dan Aykroyd commodity comedy "Trading Places," my wife sees a rare opening and seizes the remote.

That warning has been on for quite some time. To me, that show, Flip That House is a warning for people who want to rent if they can't sell a house. Some of those families who left the house should not have had a house at alll; they do not have the brains to take care of one.
As for the show, it is good in that it shows how to upgrade to the neighborhood, not go overboard as do most of the programs.

This made me really think. I wonder if TLC, DIY and HGTV will begin to alter their programming to more realistic-for-the-times shows? The flipping era is long over, and it seems that the "Flip that House" type shows are past their point of relevance.

Do not be afraid. Our fear is their biggest weapon and if we take it from the they are powerless.

Who are "they"?

Only YOU can answer that question.

at the risk of being politically incorrect may I suggest prayer?

One more thing - it might not be a bad idea to not watch TV (sorry for the split infinitive) for a while.

Be not afraid

Saluki Rod, I doubt the flipping era is "over". I agree the massively speculative and highly profitable flipping that went on in hot markets like Miami may slow down-- for now.

However, in secondary markets where home values are dropping considerably, I think there will be an increase in flipping-- simply because one can buy a house at market value or lower, invest a nominal amount of money to improve the property, then sell it at a decent profit.

Yo Tony, you make a good point. However, after seeing 3 houses in my neighborhood (mid-priced for Downers Grove) sit vacant for upwards of 9 months, I feel that the 'little guy flipper' is out of commission for now. You're right though, this would be an awesome time to buy low if you have the luxury of being able to ride out the downward wave.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Pisces

Are you feeling fraught? It certainly seems that way, perhaps because you've got far too much on your plate and not nearly enough time to tackle it all. Do yourself a big favor and start with whatever is most urgent, otherwise you'll waste time by dithering or getting caught up in trivial tasks. Above all, don't get into a panic because that will squander valuable time and energy.
