1 truth about this place. A regular for years, who enjoyed the jukebox, pool tables, and minded my own business, I was accosted in March by a very drunk bartender there- the staff allowed to get as inebriated as the customers- was beaten about the face and had my glasses crushed beneath the bootheel of one of the many primate customers. Originally intending simply to give a goodbye present to another departing bartender, I jumped up and flung the gift into the bartenders' alcove before the shrieking, blood-hungry goons could toss me out. So happy 75th, El Patio - a grim hole of casual violence and lost dreams, where future generations are sure to waste their lives as so many others already have. |

1 I remember that night. I also remember you acting like a douche bag .. and that girl that went crazy on you didn't work there, she just acts like she does because she a mentally disturbed drunk, and her dads a doctor so she thinks it's cool to be a loser |

Sorry, wrong, whoever you are, but that very drunk girl who hit me three times was Perla, a girl who often subs in as a bartender on Thursday and Friday nights when needed. Our exchange went as follows: Perla: "You're Jenny's (another bartender there) little friend, aren't you?" Me: "Er, yes, I..." Perla: "Well, if you start any #$%@# tonight, we'll toss your ass out of here." Baffled, I proceeded to the pool table for my usual non-confrontational evening, while Perla, allowed to work behind the bar on this very busy night despite being completely incapacitated and continuing to drink numerous shots, mocked my requests for change for pool and continued to insult me. I had barely drank a 1/4 of a Tecate that night, but finally, after repeatedly taking her abuse I justifiably lost my temper and pushed her [once]. She then smashed me three times in the face as some other scumbag held me, my glasses were smashed by yet another, etc. Them's the facts - the true face of El Patio. |

BTW - While this all occured the bouncer Paul pulled his usual standoffish routine and did nothing. Like the man said, security is non-existent: You've been warned.

Yeah i know it was Perla, that idiot doesn't even work there because she doesn't get paid. And if that is the case sue them, they deserve to get served if they let a retard like go around stubling drunk acting like she works there every night, And sue her. i know her parents have enough money to cover it. |

The incident was just a metaphor for what a violent place El Patio generally is. People getting smashed with bottles and deputies taking statements is a common sight. In a way I'm glad it happened so I'm free of that cesspool. |

I remember when the Patio was a fun, laid-back place to relax and listen to some funky music.... so sad that the gen X-ers have ruined the place............

I wish they actually had a patio....

You and Perla should both be 86'd!! |

So let me get this straight. Stevie boy pushes Perla, a female. Hmm. This after she tells him not to start any shiite. Apparently Stevie boy was a known trouble maker at the Patio. Strange, I lived in Mesilla for quite a few years and El Patio was always a laid back, rock and roll playing bar where the "gringos" went to drink. I rarely saw any Mexicans in there unless they were with the band. Stevie must have his bars confused.

I remember back in the seventies, when I was in middle school, my sisters and friends would hang out in this area. When we became of age we went inside El Patio Cantina to have a drink. The owners are very friendly and you are feel right at home. When you are in the area, please come in visit. There are many other places to eat and have a drink!

Well, Chorizo, you must be one of the bar's many patrons whose mind is destroyed by booze to come up with a complete distortion of the facts like that. "Rarely saw any Mexicans"??? Are you hallucinating you're in the Hamptons or something? Or perhaps you're distingushing between "Mexicans" and "hispanics." In that case, yes, there are probably more hispanics than pure-blood Mexicans at El Patio, and one of them indeed drunkingly attacked me after I, as a longtime, law-abiding patron who chatted amiably with bartenders Jimi, Bobby, Micah, and Jenny (the bar must be making stories up about me at this point to cover their ass) refused to all of a sudden be the butt of her insults. So, Chorizo, go back to resting your head on the bar and living your pathetic life. You seem to have a knack for wonderful, unreal visions - maybe submit something to the border book festival next year. |

You are hilarious Steve!!! I have never heard someone complain sooooo much about being "beaten about the face" by a girl before!!!

1 Or being held from behind while I'm being hit (by a fat bulldyke like Perla, who hardly qualifies as 'just a girl'), having my clothes torn, being surrounded by a bunch of bar goons saying 'you need to get the fuck out of here' and having one of the apes smash my glasses! Ha, ha, you sure put it in perspective for me, Comedy. Hilarious good times!! You should come on down sometime, Comedy, and maybe you can have a beer bottle smashed on your head or any of the other great times to be regularly had at Jolly old El Patio. |

I read somewhere that that bar has been a bar since the early 1850's. It was owned by a man named Guadalupe Miranda. That was when Mesilla was still part of Mexico.

For your info, I don't drink Stevie boy. I played there in the 70's and honestly I didn't see the allure. And what took you so long to come up with this gem of a response? Just waking up from your drunken stupor? That alcohol has killed most of what's left of your little brain. |
