Republican Registrar In New Britain To Challenge Party Choice

Dorothy Turnrose should win the primary. True, Peter Gostin is well known throughoout New Britain, but Dorothy has the Registrar experience. If she wins the primary, she should hire Peter as her assistant, so he'll gain knowledge of the Registrar position.

Only a person with a huge ego and no interest in the cost of conducting a primary to the city would pursue her personal interests at the age of "pushing 80 or more". Shame on Dorothy Turnrose. She is a "legend in her own mind". Get over yourself. Technology and energy belong to the young. New Britain would have many more Republicans if we had more vital energy coming from her office.

I have been following this petition for a primary and I don't think that Ms. Turnrose initially sought to bring a primary and the costs associated to the city. How a few members of the republican party unilaterally attempted to push Ms. Turnrose out is the reason for the primary.
I am interested in understanding what qualifications are required for this position and what the job description is including how many hours and the pay structure with benefits. I am one of a mere 3600?

and I want all of the facts prior to
the primary. If the next registrar
should be mentored by Ms. Turnrose during one more term in order to best
train her successor, then I think this is the best course of action.
I am also concerned that the continued bad mouthing of Ms. Turnrose regarding her age, computer skills and vitality is putting the city at risk for a age discrimination lawsuit.

When your registrar of voters still uses a typewriter, there is a problem.

When your registrar of voters doesn't go out of the office to promote voter resigtration around town, there is a problem.

When your registrar is borderline senile, there is a problem.

Dorothy is a wonderful woman, and has done great things over many years, but she is just too old! She has not changed with the times, and NB Republicans can't afford someone like her leading the effort to recruit more Republicans in New Britain!

It is selfish of her to petition on the ballot. She told everyone MORE than once that this was her last term.

She needs to go home,enjoy retirement, and let someone new, someone who knows todays technologies, become the new Republican registrar.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't registrar of voters an elected position that can bring a primary ballot when more than one person is interested in the job?

It seems to me that this position is
seldom challenged. As a republican in New Britain I would like to know what Mr. Gostin's credentials are that make him well qualified to take over for Ms. Turnrose. Maybe Ms. Turnrose does not agree that the choice to replace her is in the best interest of the party and therefore petitioned a primary to put this information out to the voters? If this is her motivation I do not find it "selfish" or "senile" behavior on her part.

Some well meaning people just can't let go,even when their time has passed. New blood is usually a good thing.

Even with the endorsement does Peter have much of a chance in a primary. He lost his last election for council. Why would city wide, outside of his normal district, gain him more support. I don't have much of an opinion either way but it seems as if Dorothy might pull this off even with out the endorsement.

They are Lou Salvio and Marilyn Kraczkowsky. Give Mark Bernacki credit for his courage. He is an outstanding public servant, as is Peter Gostin.

In all fairness to the humble "one who knows the score", Kraczkosky gets elected because of minority party representation. Until recently the same was true of Salvio. Bernacki though gets lots of votes not because R's vote for him but because D's do....just like Stewart.

About $51,850 a year, plus about 5-16k in medical, depending if they are single, married, or have a family.

Dorothy has been out there setting up voter registration days at New Britain High School and E.C. Goodwin Tech. She sees to it that all Republican voters are listed on the computer. Both she and Butch are very well informed on today's technology. She definitely is up to date.
Be careful what you say about "being too old"...Someone just might bring an age discrimination charge against you!

What kind of courage does it take to run a quick print shop?
Lets see Benacki win an a Republicanprimary where dems aren't allowed to vote.He chickened out of this primary battle because he knows the rank and file republicans don't care too much for him. Bernacki is an opportunistic fellow.

People believe in her courage to do the right thing! She beat out the highest Polish vote getter by a thousand votes. As a Republican, sixteen years later still commanded the most votes of Republicans who ran for the school board. They still believed in her to do the right thing! Who cares, you might say?? The BOE spends more than 60% of the municipal budget. Do not discount the importance of school board members who are not paid a cent. Dorothy, your time is up. Live with it.

Mark Bernacki is not the only convert from Democrat to Republican...It might surprise many out there how many Republican converts there are. We have John MacNamara to thank...the Democrats are doing the Republicans a favor by keeping him on as Chairman, what with his Gestapo tactics!!
