Loved the movied! Not so sure I liked the ending - that's why I give it 4 stars. It's so hard to explain to people that haven't watched the show that it's not about marriage - quite the opposite. It's about women coming together and finding their respective places in the world that they create. It's about standing on your own and not needing a man to run your life without being a bra-burning, man-hating, hippie. If men truly watched the show for what it was, they would appreiciate the the equal life partners, encouraging life partners, and completing life partners that these women are and hope that others will be as well.

I wouldn't trust a woman like one of those four narcissists to tell me what the weather is like, let alone be a "life partner". I used to think that show just reflected where society went wrong. Unfortunately it also influenced society for the worse. |

What is with all the male nudity in movies the last couple of years? Has anyone else noticed there's not much female nudity anymore and there is so much more nude men in movies and on t.v. recently, especially really graphic full frontal nude men? The shower scene in Sex and the City was like watching a soft core porn movie.

Please, SJP. Women are far more interested in fashion, food and feckless gossip than sex.
Why don't you have yourself another chocolate bar and stop pretending you like you have a libido remotely akin to that of the average man's. |

This movie so disappointed with it's cliches and predictable ending...corny too.
Charolette - was so darn happy. Is that new? Samantha - Choose to be Richard Wright! An old oversexed man googling at eye candy and picking that over a relationship. Smith Jerod was cool with that (Bad acting). Miranda - She had the most interesting story and was true to her character on the TV show. But how is her comment the reason for Big disssing Carrie - COME ON!! Carrie - Well she still can't be herself and get what she wants so she pouts and in the end gets the man (by then he is so wimpy and old did he have a choice). Big - A shell of his former self. No grit, no excitment..and really didn't seem phased at all if they were or weren't married. Fashion - Over the top. They didn't wear this much gawdy clothes in the TV show... really when did Miranda go all out for fashion..or Steve wear more than a t shirt and jeans. The friendship - Well they are stuck with each other..who would else want them. NYC - This could of taken place anywhere and for half of the film it was LA and Mexico. Overall... they dumbed it down and gave us the fairy tale ending. Awe so in the end that's what women want! Sex, money and nice shoes!! |

Best statement I've read yet about this show! |
|
Jumper, Frank, lighten up. It's just a movie, make believe...you know, NOT REAL....sounds to me like Jumper had to BUY himself a bride, as in some subservient little mail-order Asian bride.... |
|
I liked that show the way I like 30 something when it was on, meaning I loved to hate every character but I watched it. Unfortunately you do speak some truth as is evidence in much worse TV know as VH1 and MTV reality shows. |

I am really disappointed to see the hateful comments made about this movie on this page. It is a summer movie. No, it does not have to be some sort of life lesson, no it does not have to be entirely realistic! What is realistic about Indiana Jones or Batman - these movies that you are holding up as some sort of standard? SATC is fun! Period! What is so wrong with women wanting to fantasize about great shoes, men, and sex - yes S-E-X!!!!! OOOOHHHH so scary! Women like sex! You guys really need to do what you're claiming the women who love SATC should do and that is grow up and get real! If I can sit through Transformers and Iron Man and not complain about how men live in a fantasy world all the time and that's why no self-respecting woman would want to be with them, maybe you can too.
|
|
Ummm... that was my point. I stated too many women cannot distinguish Sex and the City from real life. When they don't attain their fantasy men get the blame. |
|
|
Frank, maybe the problem isn't with women who can't distinguish Sex and the City from real life, but with MEN who can't distinguish real women from their own misguided preconceived notions. If you can only find women who are shallow and materialistic and out of touch with reality, then I think that speaks more to your bad judgment than actual women. I know quite a few women who like or love SATC and the reason they love it is because IS ISN'T REALITY. Sort of the same reason men love Rocky or movies that star Will Ferrell. It is entertainment. Women are frequently able to look beyond themselves to see movies like Indiana Jones and Batman as the entertainment they are and enjoy them as such. Why don't you men try doing the same?
And if you feel that Sex and the City is just about problems with men, maybe you should try looking a little deeper. You may be surprised to find that it really isn't all about you. ;) |

I am a female and I agree with men on this one. Sorry! I have too many friends who try to live their lives like these women. There are so many women who take this as reality. I have to say I liked the show and went to see the movie. I thought the movie was o.k., but so many women were crying and acting as if God was in the theater from the way they acted before, during and after the movie. Get real, it's just a movie! And one more thing, I found it absolutely appalling the way the entire theater clapped and hooted when they showed the male frontal nudity. How immature! They acted like they were 16 at a strip club! I am not a prude by any stretch, but why do male genitals have to be shown? Leave something to the imagination, please! I wouldn't want to see a graphic shot of a vagina either.

I absolutely loved this movie! It went way past my expectations!

This was a wonderful movie. Made me think what I went through in a divorce. The movie was focused on Carrie and her sadness from her wedding. The others were great also . They had issues a woman deals with every day. When a husband has sex with another woman and tell his wife, that is very painful. at least he was honest and still loved his wife. that is more than I could say about my ex. He never could face me to this day. This is when I start cryin in the show. For carrie marrying John he had 2 wives before her she should have known to be low key on the 3rd.

You really understand what the movie is about. That's exactly what it is and why we all enjoy our eye candy. Excellent review. Thx.

This had nothing in common with the TV /HBO show. Phillips is a terrible reviewer and again must be paid by studio. This wasa total embarr. to the witt the show brought to breast cancer, death, AIDS, and there was no SEX? Shallow and please read NYTimes again Phillips is a fool.

A fantastic review Jessica. WELL done! I am a retired hetrosexual (Wife and one son) writer-photographer, and was born and raised in Chicago, but have lived in California for many years. Can't stand cold weather. I would have been proud to have written your review. I agree with everything. I saw all of the SATC series on HBO and saw the movie the first weekend it opened. Why do I like SATC so much? How could you NOT love a movie that features four beautiful women with SEX as the main subject?
|
|
Dude, you are so gay! Wait, you did say you are a retired heterosexual. Nevermind. |
|
|
well done ,but if i see the film ,i say
but this movie not came here in my country were i live |

Agree with this review. Beautifully constructed movie, even for those who did not follow the show too closely.
