Hi! My name is Barbara Hoffman and I reside in San Antonio,Texas. My husband and I had driven to NYC and were on our way back to Texas, and had decided to stop by Skaneateles for the Dickens Christmas celebration, as I had read about it in a travel book. We had a great time and stayed for several hours on the Sat. after Thanksgiving. However, as we started to leave, in our rental car, we discovered that we had lost the one and only car key. We searched the streets we had been on, with no luck. The carriage operators also looked for us with no luck. A police officer got the car open so we could get our luggage out, and the police dispatchers were kind and concerned with every call we made inquiring about any possible car key having been turned in. Jack, the locksmith, explained that he did not have the equipment to make a key for this particular car but kindly called other locksmiths in the area to see if they could assist us, but unfortunately they were also unable to help.We had to have the car towed to Auburn,to a dealership to get a key made. The dealership was closed on Sunday and when we spoke to them on Monday am, we learned they did not have a way to make the key but were willing to order one from Ohio. We called the Sherwood Inn on Monday to see if anyone had turned in any key to them. The lady who answered said that no key had been turned in to her but that she had seen a sign in the window of a shop, indicating a key had been found. We called the Skaneateles 300 Shoe store and spoke to the owner who told us that a car key had been found by a person (name unknown). It was our key!!!
The owner of the shop is Geraldean Lantier. Thank you Geraldean! You were so thoughtful to put up the sign. And thank you to the wonderful person who turned the key in. Thanks to the police, the lady at the Sherwood Inn,and the locksmiths who made ever effort to help us. So, to paraphrase Dickens "God bless them everyone!" The kindness of the people of Skaneateles will not be soon forgotten! |
