As PBS's "Masterpiece Classic" continues to roll out films based on the works of Charles Dickens, attention turns to one of the author's less popular works, "Little Dorrit." Beginning at 9 p.m. EDT Sunday and continuing for the next four Sundays, "Dorrit" tells a Dickens love story with the timely themes of chronic debt and financial collapse.
Starring Matthew Macfadyen as Arthur Clennam and newcomer Claire Foy as Amy Dorrit. Check your local listings on PBS for times/schedule. PBS Masterpiece ClassicsEdit/Update 3/28/09: A great review of the series in the New York Times TV Review Section thanks Pat.

In the meanwhile, I have been reading (and recently purchased) three Dickens novels- A Tale of Two Cities (Dickens' bloodiest novel), David Copperfield, and Oliver Twist. And all that with my reviews of the Little Dorrit novel and my rewriting of my Little Dorrit sequel. Busy, busy, busy!!

If you're interested, I finished the series of summaries on the Little Dorrit novel I was working on in the Little Dorrit forum. A week later, I will give you the extra treat of summaries from the novel version of my Little Dorrit sequel (which will be interesting, since I haven't even finished this novel)

After seeing the other mini-series that have been submitted for consideration for the Emmy, I really think Little Dorrit has a wonderful chance for a nomination. The list for consideration in this category are:
The Color of Magic Generation Kill House of Saddam Knights of Bloodsteel The Last Templar Little Dorrit Maneater The list of Actors and Actresses submitted for consideration in those categories is LONG, including Kevin Bacon, Kenneth Branagh, Brendan Gleeson, Kevin Kline, our MATTHEW (OF COURSE!), Ian McKellan, Matthew Modine, Jonathan Pryce, Kiefer Sutherland, Noah Wylie, Alexander Skarsgard..just to name a few of the actors. And for the actresses....Kathy Baker, Drew Barrymore, CLAIRE FOY (YAY!!), Jessica Lange, Shirley MacLaine, Anna Paquin, Uma Thurman, Sigourney Weaver, Lesley Ann Warren, Mira Sorvino, Mena Suvari....just to name a few. I never knew just how many actors and actresses names are submitted for consideration...it's overwhelming really! Of course, Tom Courtenay and Andy Serkis have been submitted for consideration for Best Supporting Actor in a Mini-series. And, Judy Parfitt for Best Supporting Actress in a mini-series. I have my fingers (and everything else, Kathy! LOL!)crossed in hopes of nominations in all of these categories...it would be wonderful..and well deserved! Here's hoping....!!! |

It's wonderful that Variety featured Little Dorrit with this article. Surely LD, Matthew, Claire, Andy, Tom and Judy will get nominations! Thanks for the link, Celena!! |
