Probably an impossible task, picking five WWII favorite movies and Mr. Tarantino should be commended for reminding us of these five worthy titles. And yet. This writer's choice would rather have come from director Zoltan Korda's 'Sahara' (w. Bogart, Dan Duryea, Lloyd Bridges, J. Carroll Naish, 1943); William Wellman's 'Battleground (Van Johnson, John Hodiak, James Whitmore, George Murphy, 1949); Robert Aldrich's 'Attack' (Jack Palance, Eddie Albert, Richard Jaeckel, Lee Marvin, 1956); Michhael Powell's and Emeric Pressburger's 'The Battle of the River Plate' (Peter Finch, Anthony Quayle, Bernard Lee, John Gregson, 1956); John Huston's 'Heaven Knows Mr. Allison' (Robert Mitchum, Deborah Kerr, 1957); Dick Powell's 'The Enemy Below' (Mitchum, Curd Jurgens, 1957); Edward Dmytryk's 'The Young Lions' (Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, Dean Martin, Maximilian Schell, Mai Britt, 1958); 'A Time to Love and a Time to Die' (John Gavin, Thayer David, Liselotte Pulver, 1958); Lewis Gilbert's 'Sink the Bismark' (Kenneth More, Dana Wynter, 1960); Ken Annakin's, Bernard Wicki's and Andrew Marton's 'The Longest Day' (John Wayne, R. Mitchum, Henry Fonda, Red Buttons, et al., 1962); John Frankeheimer's 'The Train' (Burt Lancaster, Paul Scofield, Michel Simon, Jeanne Moreau, 1964); Arthur Hiller's 'The Americanization of Emily' (James Garner, Julie Andrews, James Coburn, Melvyn Douglas, 1964).

His latest movie is a stylized remake of an Italian movie of the same name. The plot and story are different but both are good. You can see where he gets his inspiration.
