I'm with Chris. This is the most perfect and beautiful movie that I've seen in a long time. But.....
I was shocked to see the Rotten Tomatos rating was only 67%! Then I understood: You will either love this movie totally and completely, or leave scratching your head and unsatisfied. There will be no middle ground. That's often the outcome for trying to adapt a beloved children's tale where we all have our visions of how it should look.
So...take your chances.
And be warned...it is a movie about childhood, but it is NOT a children's movie. My 13-year old was bored, the 4 year-old was oddly mesmerized. I sense the adults in the crowd liked it a lot more than the kids, and many parents are already complaining about the movie being too dark, too violent and too intense for young children.
People will gush. People will complain. People will not understand. In the end, isn't that what defines great art? See it and make up your own mind.

four moms and 13 kids(5-13) all were totally dissappointed. I am tired of movie companies promoting movies for children that are not appropriate. You know when your te-year-old stands up in the theater and states "Why did we pay $6.50 for this crap." I wish he would of chosen other words, but everyone agreed with him. It is very dark and scary for children.

We left talking about what we could of done with all the money we spent on that dumb movie.

movies about childhood are not always for children ... if a movie of lord of the flies came out I would not take an 8 to 15 year old... however 17 and older and being able to reflect on what childhood teaches us or the experiences it brings is a wonderful thing.. People should read what movies are about before taking children realizing the maturity levels and the ability for them to understand the message may be needed to enjoy it..
