I am appolled to think that someone would even think of altering OUR Star Spangled Banner. The song is meant for Americans to celebrate OUR freedom, not theirs. I'm sick to death of altering everything here in the U.S. to accomodate the illegal aliens to make them feel like they fit in-because they don't. I'm also tired of having Mexican culture stuck down my throat-if I wanted to learn about it, I would go to Mexico. If they are living in the U.S. they can listen to our version of any song, especially the Star Spangled Banner & like it if they choose to live here. I will not have our heritage changed or altered due to their whining. If they don't like it they need to go back to Mexico!

"A rose by any other word would smell as sweet." Calm down lady, no one's gonna force you to listen to it or sing it. Don't be angry at something illegal immigrants didn't do. it was produced by a Briton and its being sung by mostly Puerto Ricans(Americans) and Wyclef Jean. Go re-read the article before posting next time

You are a racist b****! No one told YOU to listen to it! Just listen to the English version if you have a problem! And, do you speak English - the word is appalled - not apolled - its surprising that the average American can barely utter some disjointed sentences and call it English. England should be ashamed that America says it speaks English - at least the latino know how to spell in their language :)

The white people were originally British immigrants. Your whole country is made up of immigrants. What about the native americans?

The Star Spangled Banner has been sang in many diffent languages by many difrrent immigrants. So, it's really common. They only reason people are upset is becuase it was sung in Spanish. Get over it. Another thing, Mexican culture has bee in America longer than most of our families have been here. The entire SW United States was once part of Mexico, that is why you have a large number of them in that area.

i think the theory of a spanish star spangled banner could be a mistake. There is no absolute reason to make it into anoher language. Its almost like making a spanish flag in the U.S. almost as a recognition of spanish citizens/immagants. I think the biggest problem is that us citizians have to learn spanish to get paid much more as a bi-legual speaker. It might sound rude but, if you go back to history our forfathers learned a certain leguage. also many other speaking laguages learned to speak english. In japan i was required to learn their leguage. I dont think its a bad idea but its setting us up for disaster

English language is basically all the languages put together. maybe study on the english history before you jump into conclusions

Yes, the English language did derive from different languages put together, but the modern English was basically set by Dr. Samuel Johnson an English man (from England) who published the first dictionary. Making spelling extremely important to the use of words.

Seriously, don't people get tired of taking everything that the Latino community does the wrong way? Even when it means paying respect to this country people whine and bitch!!! The purpose of the song is not to take the place of English version of the song, nor to do away with the English language. I have yet to meet one single Hispanic or Hispanic-American who doesn't want to speak English. I have met a lot of Hispanic immigrants who because of their heavy work schedules and their lack of economic resources, can't afford to exert too much energy into learning English. If people in this country have such a problem with people not understanding or speaking English then why don't they finance their English education?
That being said, the purpose of this song is so that the people who do not grasp the English language can still feel the patriotism and the honor that we feel when we think of the US. The point is not to erase an aspect of our American culture (the English language) but so that others can understand and respect the beauty of the homeland. But I guess that is something we don't want? Are you telling me that we don't want other people to understand the beauty of our country simply because they don't speak English?
"English translation:
Verse 1
It's sunrise. Do you see by the light of the dawn
What we proudly hailed last nightfall?
Its stars, its stripes
yesterday streamed
above fierce combat
a symbol of victory
the glory of battle, the march toward liberty.
Throughout the night, they proclaimed: "We will defend it!"
Chorus
Tell me! Does its starry beauty still wave
above the land of the free,
the sacred flag?
Verse 2
Its stars, its stripes,
Liberty, we are the same.
We are brothers in our anthem.
In fierce combat, a symbol of victory
the glory of battle,
(My people fight on)
the march toward liberty.
(The time has come to break the chains.)
Throughout the night they proclaimed: "We will defend it!"
Tell me! Does its starry beauty still wave
above the land of the free,
the sacred flag?"
There is the translation. It doesn't translate well into English, like a literal translation of the English version wouldn't translate perfectly into Spanish, but if you read them in their respect context the message is still the same, and they both bring a tear to my eye when I think of the red, white, and blue

The hatred towards Spanish people in this country is driving me crazy! WTF does it accomplish? We are all immigrants. what the hell is so wrong with hearing and speaking other languages? People all over the world do it all the time. I think some people feel threatened because they think they are to stupid to learn another language. I am a caucasian native born American and I am sick of being compared to these haters too! I never hated blacks either growing up. I don't hate immigrants either. Ithink it makes life more interesting. Let's not put everyone in a box.

Thought so. "Spanish" should always begin with an upper-case letter.
