Again time to export democracy. End the embargo and you would see these Cuban officials have to come up with a new excuse for their existance. It well known and this quote says alot.
"Tourism has not been given the priority that it had in the past," he said. "There is a sector in the Cuban government that views tourism as a very serious political threat to its absolute power."

Anyone that has visited Cuba in the past 5 - 10 years can see the decline of the basic infrastructure of the country as well as the rising costs to travel to Cuba. When you can travel and vacation in other Caribbean areas for half the price, why go to Cuba.

Fidels' government forgot to reinvest some of the money, that they have been stealing from the people over the years, back into the tourism industry. Now they are crying and blaming others for their mistakes.

The simple fact is that Cuba will continue to suffer as long as Fidel and his henchmen are in power !!

No logic here in Forrest's statement, who is crying? The bookeepers make sure the money does not go any where except into the government coffers. In fact the basic infrastructure is the same as in 1962 and in many cases has been improved. Infrastructure NOT buses, but new highways, buildings, renovations etc. etc.

I would not spend a cent going to that prison island. It is immoral that cubans can not talk freely to the tourists out of fear to the police, or even enter the hotels and beaches reserved for "Tourists only". So much for a Revolution that promised free access to any beach, any hotel or any club that used to be "private" before Castro. The sma reality of 1959 is present in Cuba again. It is calld "The tourist apartheid". Very sad situation.
The cubans who have been asked for 50 years to work hard and sacrifice for the Revolution, realize now that the sacrifice and hard worked were in vain. Only the tourists and the governement elite are the ones enjoying of the very best the island has to offer.
Havana never had so many prostitutes, not even in 1959, selling their bodies for just about anything, not just money. What a sad reality...!!!!

These are the women left behind by men who come here for freedom leaving their mothers, daughters and sisters to fend for themselves. They even admit it when interviewed upon reaching the wet foot/dry foot shores of Florida. How brave these gooks are, huh? While they're here collecting $$ from the US, they families are on their backs; guess it's in the name of freedom or is it Social securty, medical and an American's job. How can they pass this up. Think about it. They're at a Heat game in the Arena and they're daughtes are "humping for dollars," sounds like a new game show, huh, amigio>>>>>> >>>>>>> To top it off "we" can't find jobs because of their freedom's language. Well, guess your mothers and daughters don't have any problems finding work. They'll prbobaly be in the same line of work when they have a chance for freedom. We are all proud of you!

In 1958, there were houses of prostitution all over Cuba. Catering to the tourists and american military. These were all closed in 1959. Tourist hotels in Mexico and other countries are off limits to natives who are not working a shift in the hotel. This is to prevent crimes as happened in Cuba before this rule was brought in. Cubans have one month of holidays each year and they have an unlimited number of beaches and resorts to go to at very low cost. Tourists wander all over the island taking and living with cubans in private homes(bed and breakfast establishments). No lack of freedom on the island. See
http://WWW.FLICKR.COM/PHOTOS/MARGO-CHRIS/SETS...

for a recent tour by bike of the island.

It exists but it is illegal. But it is not organized and it is a few only of degenerates who love money more than themselves who participate by selling themselves(but at least they are healthy). Canada at least will prosecute sex tourists where children are involved.

NOT ONLY WHAT IS MENTIONED HERE, BUT ALSO THE CUBAN PEOPLE WHO WORK AT THESE LOCATIONS DON'T WANT TO WORK AFTER SEEING ALL THE THINGS THAT THE TOURIST HAVE FOOD, CLEAN WATER ETC..AND THEY CAN'T EVEN TAKE BREAD TO THEIR FAMILIES OF WHAT IS LEFT OVER...I WOULD DO THE SAME THING SO IT'S HARDER FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO FIND PEOPLE TO WORK ANYWHERE IN CUBA

What is that person from Nova Scotia talking about? I can get all inclusive four star hotel in Varadero from NS cheaper than that. AND cheaper than Cancun, and Cuba's a lot safer Again, such slanted reporting on Cuba -- where in Cuba did this girl go to, Havana? Cuba doing its best re tourism, let the Americans end the travel restrictions and criminal embargo, that's the more important

Lift the stupid embargo on them......Who are we to dictate whether or not they run a communist regime.....if we were in the Coldwar heyday, than I would think different.....but Cuba is zero threat to the US....other than the threat of another flood of refugees infecting our country.

I love it when Comrade Cannuck says that I am incorrect in my statement yet goes ahead and says something that EXACTLY makes my point.

The infrastructure was in bad shape back in 1962, so if its still in the same shape 45 years later...what does that tell you !!

"Bookkeepers" in the Cuban Governemnt is a laughable statement all by itself.

As long as Fidel is in control, Cuba and its people are destined for misery !!

Actually Comrade Cannuck, prostitution, the drug trade and other illegal activities are very organized in Cuba because most of those type of businesses are excellently managed by Fidel's henchmen...very comparable to the way the so-called "Mob" was organized back in the day !!

Mob? Prostitution, Marijuana en Cuba?? Never having stayed at a tourist hotel, I cannot say for sure that some hotel enployee may be arranging something for the tourists with bucks. However drug pushing is a serious crime in Cuba, and the cuban coastquard has reported several seizes on the seas in recent times where firearms were used to stop the drug boats.(boats from the Bahamas to Florida) Infrastructure about the same as in 1962, typical latin american no better no worse than Chile Argentina Peru etc. etc.Any cuban caught dealing drugs in Cuba would get a long time in jail. If a high official-the death penalty as did Ochoa.Org anization??? No nino, individuals who care more for money than themselves, the cubans are very concerned with corruption and for this reason a few years ago brought into Havana police from Oriente who had no family or friends in Havana to replace those officers who were connected but the battle goes on.
