Oh Greg,
You Madonna bashers are never satisfied. It doesn't matter WHAT she does, you always have to bash it. When she did American Life and tried to do something different and creative, what did you do, you bashed it. Now she's finally caved in and said "Okay, I'll put my own spin on what everyone else is doing to get airplay and record sales and now you bash that too. You critics are never satisfied. By the way, in case you haven't read all the other reviews, you are in the minority on this one... |

I've loved Madonna's music since college days...when she first appeared on the scene in "Like a Virgin."
I've got speeding tickets while listening to La Isla Bonita.... go figure! Bottom line is if the Rolling Stones and Beatles era Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are all still doing their music at their age...60 something - plus... Madonna is just as spectacular for the Gen X crowd and I am sure she'll be around a lot longer too. Give the "Material Girl" credit for what she's done. All the big music stars evolve and she will keep doing so well into the future -- ya win some, ya loose some. With Madonna it was all about "attitude"....and a bit of shocking the audience with outrageousness. She may be trying to find a different place in the music biz now. I am not a Justin Timberlake fan -- never will be and I seriously doubt I will buy "Hard Candy." Maybe she will revamp her next music endeavor and find a happy medium between her old stuff and adding some of her own new and innovative music. |

Did you even bother to listen to any of the music on Hard Candy? Your article doesn't indicate so, but instead regurgitates facts from other reviews. For a better indication of what this CD is all about, see http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/27/arts/music/... |

All the negative reviews about Madonna's are besides the point because they all either center around Madonna being old or chide her for working with mainstream producers (as if that automatically makes a bad record). As usual, nearly none of the negative reviews about the latest Madonna record discuss the actual music in any kind of detail. They all reduce the record to rubbish for something as arbitrary as cliche lyrics (as if a great pop song has to have a sophisticated rhyme scheme and complex metaphors as a prerequisite for greatness) or about Madonna still singing about doing it all night. She sings about 'going on and and on' in "Give it 2 Me" but she's talking about dancing. The only song she talks about sex in is "Incredible" when she flat-out exclaims 'the sex is incredible!' in a way that's a little more bold than a typical pop song. "Candy Store" has a little double-enendre' but the record is hardly as sex-drenched as Madonna's critics like to portray.
I am so sick to death of negative Madonna reviews by know-nothings who barely, if at all, took the time to actually listen to the record. And on this record all anyone can say against it is a lack of innovation, as if that automatically equals a bad record. Some of the best records come from artists who re-work rock and pop formulas to suit their own personal style and vision. Lack of innovation aside, Madonna's Hard Candy is another 1st-rate pop record, pristinely recorded and impeccably executed in a manner that we've all come to expect from pop music's greatest star. Which is the real reason why we still talk about her. |

They say that a good thing never lasts, and then it has to fall," Madonna sings on her new album, "Hard Candy."
"Those are the people that didn’t amount to much at all." |

It's always been so funny to me that people seem to think that singers like Madonna are above criticism. Gregg is entitled to his opinion so respect it.(He is right though!)

I dunno. Madonna's pretty awsome. Not a big fan of her newest song with *shudders* Justin Timberlake. Jesus. What she thinking?

Madonna is my fav musician... what ever you think no one can deny she is the undisputed Queen of Pop/ Controversy and a motherf*cking good show.
Bowie is my second fav musician.. these two have so much in common. |
