It is not this couples desire to be in this situation. It seems to be an extremely difficult and stressful position to be in. With the publication of this article, it is my hope that those whose duty it is to expedite the forms and permissions to act as if they themselves had this desperate burden to deal with. Taxpayers have already spent the money to train them and to retain them obviously requires doing a bit more than the minimum tasks that are assigned day-to-day. Step up and act like the leaders we are paying you to be. They don't deserve this additional burden.

Let's hope that you never have to walk in her or her fiance's shoes. Where is your compassion and understanding. You definitely are an idiot. Go crawl back in the hole you came out of. We don't need people like you in our society.

I hope she gets help, having two working parents makes childrearing difficult. Its in our better interest to help families because children produced are our future.

These people fight for our rights and freedom but God forbid they get the support from our government that they need during this difficult time in their lives. My Godsons were born premature and had severe issues as well so I KNOW the they are having a difficult time. She should be allowed to leave the service, and leave her husband, the father in good standing AWOL? Seriously! And it's a wonder why people don't trust the government!!

I would say that the babies were born extremely premature since the apparent father is still just a fiance'.

From the article: "Pay for both of them was suspended. " Can't read very well can you? If she is showing up and doing her job, then she should be being paid. If she has used all her leave time and not, show should not be.

Our military personel are underpaid and their medical coverage is third world country for themselves and their dependents. The dependents must pay monthly for their Tri Care and there is three levels of plans that they may choose from. Now an illegal (from any country) that is in the United States gets immediate 100% medical coverage, medicine, any type of medical follow up, physical therapy, Med evac rides, ambulances, etc. This is a mother who is concerned over the immediate medical needs of her two infants. Yes, she chose to join the military and get pregnant, but she didn't choose for the children to be so ill. The military has failed her for not providing day care on her active military base to help with the special needs of the children. An illegal (from any country) would be given in home care from a pediatric nurse, physical therapists and any type of transportation needed to anywhere in the United States for free, along with free room and board for the parents and any siblings wishing to go along. I have a nephew who is active military and I have a friend who is a registered nurse with an at home company.

People if you plan to join the military, please be informed that it doesn't matter if you give birth. A soldiers job is to protect this counrty and you may be needed overseas. Please don't plan on having kids while you are enlisted. Wait until you are discharged. If you plan on having sex while in the military pleae be responsible and use contraception. The only thing for the Army to do is discharge this individual. It would not do any harm to the Army to give her an honorable discharge. There's my sympathy.

The soldier is extremely lucky she is in the service and had the outstanding socialized medical care for her pre-natal, delivery, neo-natal intensive care, and intense specialized surgery. This is a tragic story that truly appeals to the sympathies of all rational and caring people and there is no Solomon. Since her family issues make her unable to perform according to the Army's needs, give her a general discharge. If the kids are her fiance's they would be eligible for medical care as his dependents. If they aren't his they had better damn well get married so she is not forced deal with the blood-sucking private health insurance leeches. She obviously believed all the recruiting crap about 'being all she could be' and forgot the reality: GI means Government Issue.

Actually, lots and lots of kids don't walk before a year or later. And there are low cost therapy services that are very good, such as Aprendamos in Las Cruces. Crawling at 10 months is not that unusual -for preemie twins especially. But I do feel of the woman. She joined the military knowing that it was more than a job. But,you would think that something could be done to help for this first bit.-kathy

Paul wrote: I guess if woman weren't in the service, this wouldn't happen.I have no sympathy for them. Women have always been supportive of the soldiers/war efforts, for WWII they worked in factories, suffered through rationing, went back into the home when soliders came back. Today women serve because we love our country just as much if not more then men. Do you not think there are single fathers who are primary caregivers? Do you think if she were a single dad struggling to care for his two infants they would be more sympathetic? Or is it because she's a woman and thats how it is. When a working mom is caring for her kids its her job but when a working dad is caring for his kids its "babysitting" or "helping out."

Women join the service for the same reason the majority of guys do. It's a good job, decent pay, good training, great benies, etc. "Do you think if she were a single dad struggling to care for his two infants they would be more sympathetic?" Hell no. Reality is: A solider is a soldier...not a mother or a father...simply a cog in a killing machine. If it breaks, repair it or throw it out and get another one.

Maybe she needs to leave army and husband needs to remain active while she tends to children. Sounds as if they both want the army to bend over backwards for them. As sad as their situation is I think one of them still needs to to make sure bills are getting paid and food is being put on the table. Too many military personnel use the "i am military" excuse to get things their way. They are no different than me or you that work here at home

The couples judgement may not be the best but this wouldn't be the first time in history, however no one could have forseen the problems the babies were born with so now the parents have to do the best they can for them, and for that I wish them all the luck in the world. Before I pass judgement, I would really like to hear the chain of commands side of the story. As the article states, the Army has a system in place to help their people. If the chain of command impeded the path for no good reasons other than abusive authority, I would love to hear about the further adventures of a former commander now in charge of sweeping the gym. A leader is a person others will follow to somewhere they would never go by themselves. Let's hope we still have these kind of leaders.

Let this be a wake-up call for those who actually believe that the Army cares about your family. There would be nothing wrong with giving this young lady a hardship discharge. At any rate, she doesn't deserve all the abuse and intimidation.
