Lisa, I got the feeling from the article that the convention was aimed at Bon Jovi fans as a whole - rather than just JBJ fans? And I can kind of understand that if BJ Management aren't involved with the merchandising etc, that they will be missing out financially. But on the other hand, is it really any different to a group of fans (just like us) getting together for fun and laughter? Kind of like the "Jovifest" (as it affectionately became known) we've just had in NZ for 10 of us - but on a bigger scale!
I guess it depends on the format this convention ultimately takes. Certainly it appears that anything unofficial on this scale will be frowned upon by BJ Management. Now following this on Facebook myself, so it will be interesting to see what develops from here. |

Judged: 2 I would advice these fans, stick to a Jovifest ;-) |

Judged: 1 I believe there is a vast difference in this vs fans just gathering. They are using Jovi in the name and their logo is has a lot of similarities to the BJ New Jersey banners and supposedly they will be charging people to attend this convention. Add to it that, the venue where they say it's going to be is way too small IMO for the impression they are giving of the event they are going to present. And...IMO...they are really off to a bad start by mentioning the Matt rejection and casting a bad light on the band with the snide comments. |

I also think one of the big problems here is that they are going to sell tickets and sell merchandise. State that they are putting proceeds to JBJ Soul Foundation, but still trading on the Jovi name.
Agreed - IMO too, the venue is definitely small if they think they are going to get big numbers. The organisers of this may have bitten off a little more than they can chew. |

As I understand it, venue is The Stone Pony. |

Judged: 1 1 1 If the weather is nice they open the blacktop area outside, which is a larger area then the entire bar. The pony is really not heavy in Jons history, more a Bruce and Southside thing. For anyone who has not been there it is nothing special, it is a typical jersey hole in the wall dive bar. |

Thanks for that info, BonJersey. So they may be able to accommodate a reasonable number of people with the outside area available too. Personally, I'd LOVE to go there one day. Particularly with the association to Bruce, Southside Johnny - and Jon! |

Re the location...it's been a few years since I've been down to the Asbury Park area and it continues to improve, but there is a definitely lack of hotels in the area for out of town attendees.
Public transportation to the area is limited which adds additional expenses for those travelling. |

Now...if Fastlane or Fountain Casino were available...definitely Jovi locations...:-) I wonder why they didn't go after the Convention Hall if Asbury was the chosen location. It would be a far better setup, but likely a lot more $$$. |

Judged: 1 1 1 There is public transportation, trains to asbury and buses but hotels that someone could stay are limited. Lots of the "hotels"" in the area are section 8 housing and not the greatest environment. So even hotels that are there be aware of what you may be getting into. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Now those places are Jovi locations, not the pony. Convention Hall would be a lot more money, the owner of the pony would just make it up in booze. If I remember right Jovi is tm by Jon, hope these ladies have good lawyers because I'm thinking they will be hearing from someone else's lawyers. |

The convention sounds like it will be cool, maybe as it grows the location may change a bit to be able to hold a larger amount of people! A cool part would be if the guys themselves would join them! Just a happy JOvi thought!

Yes...Jon Bon Jovi and Bon Jovi are tm'd...definitely for use with any connection to music & merchandise, but then perhaps they are hoping there will be contact, hoping that it would the chance for negotiations to give official sanction. |
