I just heard on the news that hurricane Ike is headed towards Galveston...Does anyone know if Texasfan close to the coast or she inland enough? Haven't seen her post for awhile but I could have missed it...

I think that she is in Houston...not too far away...hope that she is staying safe. I will pray!!!

They are tracking it as being south of Galveston which is where I am...who knows? I am thinking they said more of the Corpus Christi area which is south of here...thanks for the nice thoughts!

I am what is known in Galveston as BOI...born on the island...I've been thru many hurricanes! They're always, always scary though.

All these hurricanes! All just coming in a row. Do ppl leave or stay? And for those that have to uproot themselves from their homes is awful. Stay safe.

Most leave...I never do. I am not right on the island but surrounded by Galveston Bay anyway. Years ago my parents lost a home to a storm named Alicia.

I can remember when I was very young a storm named Carla blowing out the windows...that was my first memory of a hurricane.

And I've had ancestors killed by the 1900 storm that destroyed Galveston..worse natural diaster in the US EVER...now they have a seawall.

It must be terrible to have your home in danger like that every once in a while. Here we never have storms or hurricanes. But we have fires all the time.

I wouldn't build a home right on the beach down here if I had the money but you get use to it...there is only one big bridge that gets you out of Galveston and that's the Causeway...other than that you are completely island bound!
