Speaking of TaraLeigh has anyone heard anything from her? I am reading two of her stories and am dying to get another chapter. She left an authors note saying someone in her immediate family died and it's been a few weeks since I heard anything. Just thought maybe someone would know if she was ok.
TaraLeigh... if you are reading this I hope everything is ok and know that I'm thinking of you and saying prayers.
Hugs!
She is around, she's been busy with some stuff going on but she is ok, she for sure appreciates everyones support though, I will pass this onto her.:)

I have a question for you, the writers:
How much of you do you give to your characters??
In my story she has the same profession and sheīs alot like me... i wonder if that happens in your stories too.
My character is really me, just a lot better version of me! It's the me I aspire to be, LOL! They are fantasy fics after all!

Hiya Girls...
I'm HOME'sMommy, TaraLeigh.
Thanks for the kind words and the worry. It's been a bit of a tough time for me, but I'm finally straightened out I think. BOUNCE gave me a head's up about this place. I've never really looked around here!

This is such a COOL thread. It's so nice to see the responses and the feedback. It is what we writers live for after all. ;)

I love knowing what the reader is thinking. It doesn't always effect how I write things, but it does give a nice insight to what are the strengths and weaknesses out there.

As a writer, I love seeing what you LIKE and DISLIKE about my story. I have to confess I wasn't so good at the negative feedback at first.*BLUSH* But HOME is my baby! I've got a thicker skin these days.

AS A READER:

Hath mentioned it...WHITE space. Please, please, pleaaaaaaaase use it! There's nothing more daunting to a reader than seeing a FREAKIN' HUGE paragraph to read. It actually hurts the flow of your story.

Flaws make a stronger character both female and male. If you make it too easy for them, then what's to keep the reader interested?

Dialogue. I love it! I neeeeedd it, crave it! But, I need the actions too! If the whole story is dialog then who's to know what they're thinking! And this is where spacing comes in.

If it's a diff person talking...NEW PARAGRAPH! I don't care if it's only a one word answer! Talk about messing with your head if it's not spaced properly.

And Proofing. I know you want to get your work out there and you're anxious to either start the NEXT chapter or for the feedback, but...read it a few times. Hell, even read it to yourself out loud. You'd be surprised what you find.

Well there's my 2cents whether you wanted it or not! LOL

Again, gotta say! I loved this thread!

My character also is a lot like me (gotta write what you know, right?), but like Opester said, a better version of me and with some imagination thrown in. I'm in my 40's, I can't write like a 23 year old (from that perspective) and I have my own likes and dislikes.

As a reader, I want a 'hook', something unique and original, and like TaraLeigh said, SPACE IT OUT! I read several fics first and saw what this meant to my reading ability when others DIDN'T do it!

As a writer, I love to know you really liked a line or the way a character is developing or even that you hated how a character acted and why you hated it. All feedback just makes us want to write better. I'm sure not a professional writer, so feedback can only help.

And, last, I hope this thread keeps going with more and more information coming in to help all of us, both as readers and writers!

Story is called John Francis, set in late December 2008
I will just be over in another room, with a brown paper bag in my hand for a while...LOL!
I just finished reading John Francis and I love it! You are very talented and I hope there is more coming. Thank you so much for the story.

Wow, Sandy! Thanks so much for the complement. I really appreciate it. And, yes, there's a LOT more of that story to come.

Great insights here, Tara! I agree and I'm also a dialog junkie! Great conversation mixed in with the character's own internal thought process is the best part of a story for me. I like characters that I can relate to and that you root for or against-as long as they inspire some feeling. Really great sex scenes that are vivid enough to picture when added occasionally are just icing on the cake!(Like those in Hathor's stories and Sunstreaked's story and Twist of Fate. I'll have to read Home as I've heard so many good things about it, but I'm trying to keep up with a couple others and it gets too confusing to read too many at the same time, so I'll look forward to reading that once the others are finished! I may never need to buy another book again at this rate!)

I will admit that I find it surprising that so many are turned off by that. I didn't think it was preachy (nor was it meant to be) but I think that one thing Jon's character needed was to find a spirituality that seemed to fit him. He was raised catholic, but has said several times that he has issues with the catholic church and I could imagine him being drawn to something so poetic. But that's just my vision. I am glad that you still liked the story as that is only a piece of the character development and what Jon discovers through falling in love. Maybe religion is too personal a subject for a fan fiction, although I find it interesting myself to learn about other's belief systems and I had hoped that many could relate to the spirituality if not the specific religion. I'd actually like to find one, perhaps on David, that draws upon Jewish religion and culture as I would find that interesting and revealing. Anyone know any?
Hello again Opester!

If you find this fiction that focuses on David and it draws upon Jewish religion and culture. Please let me know.

I wish someone would write one. I don't know enough about the culture to do it justice, but I should would love to learn more too! Hathor? David fans? Anyone up to it?

Sheena - Hathor wrote "The Joker" about David. Great story, I swear even a Jon/Richie girl "falls in love" with David about 4 chapters in, but it doesn't touch too much on the religious aspects until later in the story. It's a don't miss story, though, that's for sure!
