She worked as a waitress at the same bar which is in the clip for She Don't Know Me. She worked at the Starland Ballroom (probably named it wrong) Jon said it at one of the JBJ and Friends shows. She was also a dental assistant. She owns/owned her own Karate Studio.

Jon confirmed at JBJ & Friends #1 Starland that Dorothea use to tend bar there many years ago. She also owned her own dojo for many years while the family was still in full time residence in Jersey. I've never seen the dental assistant thing confirmed in any official articles.

I think Dorothea worked primarily as a teen and very early 20s-- and during the year they broke up. Keep in mind that Jon was a multi-millionaire pretty early on (by 25 I think). Dorothea travelled with him enough to preclude her having a "career" type of job. Later as his career was in the stratosphere, she opened and ran her own dojo. Once the children came, her primary role was as mother (and wife). She is in charge of the household organization. I would also suggest that her leadership and involvement in establishing the Soul Kitchen constitutes "work" although, of course, she doesn't get paid.

There have been photos of Dorothea and Jon coming out of the Whole Foods store with bags of groceries (and also of Jon bringing home take-out pizza for the family). I am sure they have household support but while having staff to do things is great, it means more people around = less privacy.

I think that Jon and Dorothea do have help, especially for the NJ house. It is a big mansion, so they need the help to keep it clean, both inside and outside. But I think that they are not the type of people who like to be served hand and foot if you know what I mean. I think dorothea probably cooks, cleans up after, and the kids probably have chores to do, maybe clean up after themselves, clean their rooms, things like that. I cannot see Jon and Dorothea raising kids that are being waited on hand and foot, they are not going to be lazy kids, that just my opinion, oh and remember, Jon is known to do a pretty good job at washing the dishes, haha!
