"You people wonder why the economy is in the tanker. It is because 3 out of 5 cars (look around when your driving) are Japanese. We are buying foreign products. Don't tell me that just because they are made in the U.S. are okay. That bologna! The profit from the car goes back to Tokyo or South Korea. Your fooling yourselves people. Start buying American made vehicles."

Another stupid comment. When will you people crawl back under your rocks and stay there!!! Soon, I hope!

"A caller claimed that Obama has hired a lot of lobbyists which I am not aware of. Please name one of them. He has hired good people that have worked in successful governments and have done something good. Not one lobbyists. So please feel free to let me know what lobbyists."

OK, how about Ron Klain? Here's an article from four days ago:

"After leaving the Clinton administration in its waning months, newly tapped Vice Presidential chief of staff Ron Klain lobbied for an asbestos industry bailout package, an airline merger, mortgage regulations to help Fannie Mae and a drug-maker under congressional scrutiny for withholding life-saving drugs from dying patients, among other clients.

Klain’s career as a lobbyist, during which clients paid nearly $700,000 for lobbying in which he participated, ended when he left his partnership at the law firm O’Melveny & Myers in 2005."

Sounds like a lobbyist to me!!

Sure the is more to the bulb breaking at ZIA MS.

The LCPS does not want to even risk a potential lawsuit for child endangerment.

These tubes may contain a maximum of 40 milligrams of elemental mercury.

Frankly, from a HAZMAT point of view, take the kids out of the one classroom that is affected. Clean up the mess with a HEPA equipped vacuum. Open the windows for 15 minutes and resume your day.

To evacuate the whole school is simply ludicrous, but then again, so are some of the potential lawsuits.

Might be cheaper to evacuate than it would be to defend a frivolous lawsuit.

"Are you kidding me? 1300 people were evacuated from Zia Middle School because a florescent light broke? Surely, there must be more to the story."

Well, people are stupid. Just look at how they all run at the word asbestos, as if it's going to kill them. Funny part is, they drink water every day that came through asbestos pipes. They shower with it, they cook with it. They wash their clothes in it. There is not nearly enough mercury in a fluorescent bulb to make one child sick, much less 1300, and certainly not enough to kill a mouse. Good thing I wasn't a teacher there, I would not have evacuated my classroom. It is a teacher's job to educate, not reinforce ignorance.

Well, I might start buying American vehicles when they make something good. When I pay for a Toyota, I get what I pay for. The other Japanese vehicles, not so much.

Chevy makes good trucks. Dodge, I hate to say, but it's true, makes some very good-looking cars (not trucks). But they are total pieces of crap. I wouldn't drive a Dodge if you paid me to take it. And Dodge truck drivers are the biggest a-holes on the planet, apparently.

That is still unacceptable. Teachers are there to educate, not exacerbate idiocy and ignorance. That is not enough mercury to do anything. Hell, I probably lose that much just synchronizing the carbs on my bike, since every once in a while a tiny bit gets sucked into the engine form the gauge. And if it was a compact flo bulb, there is almost no mercury in it.

I don't believe it... most of my favorite commentators are all on board almost immediately with some great feedback. Nice way to start my morning out.

Now to see what Shroom's, NJ's, jimbob's, Guest1's & others contributions will be.

Hope you all have a great day! I'll spare you all the verbosity today too. Just had to chime in on the quality of the comments. Nice!

PS: Michael if you're reading... your presence is greatly missed! Hope you're alright!~SB

There's probably a named malady for 'fear of lawyers.' How about one for 'hatred of lawyers'? They are the reason health care costs so much. If Nobama wants to help get everyone health care, we need to stop the frivolous lawsuits first and then go after the crook insurance companies and make them cut the overhead out and pay claims.

I'll start buying American cars when what comes out of Detroit, etc is worth buying. Out of all of my cars, I've had one American breed. That one car cost me more to repair and keep up than all of the repair bills from my Hondas.

Vert true Tos, but these are the very same folks who paid-out millions to the campaigns of both candidates, so don't hold your breath! What we need is some new, honest politicians--LOL!!

Here's another "bitter pills" those poor folks at the big 3 have to swallow.

Employees will not be asked to come back to work until at least Jan. 19, the company said. A total of 46,000 employees will be affected by the shutdown, but they will be paid about 95% of their pay through unemployment and contributions from Chrysler, the company said.

I took a quick informal poll here in the office and everyone would take 4 weeks off, during the holidays, in exchange for only 95% of their pay. bring it on unions, I can't wait to jump on a plane for Cancun, or Maui! Poor souls!!

good luck with your search for honesty in politics....you will need it. by the way if you find one, protect him/her well, they will need it. even though your comment is accurate and logical, it is beyond the logicical truths (this is sarcasm) of the politicians i have had the (insert your own descriptor here)(mine would all be negative) of meeting. jmho
