The Bain Files: Inside Mitt Romney’s Tax-Dodging Cayman Schemes

Today, we are publishing more than 950 pages of internal audits, financial statements, and private investor letters for 21 cryptically named entities in which Romney had invested—at minimum—more than $10 million as of 2011 (that number is based on the low end of ranges he has disclosed—the true number is almost certainly significantly higher). Almost all of them are affiliated with Bain Capital, the secretive private equity firm Romney co-founded in 1984 and ran until his departure in 1999 (or 2002, depending on whom you ask). Many of them are offshore funds based in the Cayman Islands. Together, they reveal the mind-numbing, maze-like, and deeply opaque complexity with which Romney has handled his wealth, the exotic tax-avoidance schemes available only to the preposterously wealthy that benefit him, the unlikely (for a right-wing religious Mormon) places that his money has ended up, and the deeply hypocritical distance between his own criticisms of Obama's fiscal approach and his money managers' embrace of those same policies. They also show that some of the investments that Romney has always described as part of his retirement package at Bain weren't made until years after he left the company.

Wow, sounds like a great trip! Was it utterly amazing?
Speaking of Bucket List, have you ever watched An Idiot Abroad?

Only a fool would pay more in taxes than he has to pay.

I have a hunch that Romney hired expert advisers to help him manage his money.

No worries, sometimes it’s nice to give one the benefit of the doubt. ;-)
Luce is a character to say the least, he has provided endless hours of entertainment.
Sobe is equally as intriguing, though he takes a more gentle approach to this posts.
No one needs the grief that the dregs of society cause.
I hope the storm manages to bypass you. ;-)
Well the people in Orlando do not seem worried and I am back home, safe and sound. I live on the gulf so the warm water determines what may happen. I have been here for years and I seem to get by every time. It remains to be seen, of course every news station tries to make it sound like the end of the world is coming and that get's annoying but what the heck. We will get it or we won't.I try to read sobe's post but I go to sleep before I am finished. He seems like a smart fella and he tells it like he sees it.I am not blessed with the details of who is cool and who is not. I read sobe for the political slant that he puts on his posts.I guess the main thing about this election is that it will soon be over. Have a great weekend, mine is going to be great, going deep sea fishing with or without a storm.

The people on the weather channel always seem to try to make the storms seem like they will be the worst case scenario possible.

That being said, it won't be wise to go deep sea fishing in the gulf. The storm will regain strength in the gulf and it looks like it will go up to somewhere like Mobile or Pensacola.

The onlly people who would want to know the details are the people in NYC and LA that write scripts for the Soap Operas. This thread became a virtual soap opera about a year or two ago. Now, it is dead except for a few laggards who just don't know when to quit.

It was amazing. What always amazed me was that whatever desolate road at any altitude there were the ladies selling their wares on the road side. 4900km up there they were with their blankets and mittens and ponchos. Alot of fun and a great experience. My friend's home town of Arequippa was celebrating their 472nd aniversery. Makes Philadelphia look very young.

How To Fix The Economy... In One Simple Chart

http://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-fix-the...

1. The health of any business or economy depends on the health of its customers, and most American customers (consumers) are strapped or broke. Consumers account for about 70% of the spending in our economy, and the other 30% is tied to consumer spending (when consumers are broke, businesses don't spend--because there's no one to sell to.)

This sad state of affairs can be seen in the following chart, which shows that the vast majority of the income in the country goes to the top 50%. The bottom 50%, meanwhile, earn less than $30,000 per year.

2. Most American consumers are strapped or broke because most of the income gains in the past 30 years have gone to the top 10%(and especially the top 1%). The chart below shows the growth of incomes over the past ~90 years. The pink section is the 1%.

3. This increasing inequality has many causes, including globalization (cheaper labor overseas), a decline in the minimum wage, the decline of private-sector unions, changes in the tax code (tax cuts for the highest earners), and other factors. But the bottom line is: Average hourly earnings in America (adjusted for inflation) have not increased in ~50 years:

4. At the same time, earnings for the highest-income Americans have gone through the roof. For example, check out how compensation for senior executives has grown relative to compensation for "average production workers" and the minimum wage (which has actually declined after adjusting for inflation). And this is just since 1990.

We had rougher weather here a few days ago. We will go out about 15 miles and catch a few and be right back. If it seems too bad we will not go but until Sunday we have a beautiful forecast.I was out one time when the water got very choppy and I got sick as a dog so I know what you mean. The old man that I go fishing with is as wise as they come and he will not take any chances. Thanks, for the warning and I am with you on its track to Alabama. Have a great day and I will snag one for you. Cheers.

I guess even you know that the "Indians" lived in north and south america for many thousands of years before europeans found their way here.

You do know that don't you DingleBrain?

I'm not like jingjing, I have no problem finding the forum.

Speaks volumes? I don't think it does --- maybe a few paragraphs in a good psychology text book --- that's about all.

Back from London to visit the Queen. Actually the old bat was out so the Palace was open for tours. I didn't go in. The underground is still mayhem, walked my arse off from Piccidilly Circus, Oxford Circus, Traflagar, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey said a prayer with candle for my family. Smoked a hookah and had great wine. Did the Jack the Ripper tour, brilliant fun in a disturbing content.

Anywho, the gun laws are ridiculous here. London has 8 million souls and the Police do not even carry guns. We gotta evolve folks. In a dumb country such as ours what would you expect.

Lady V you crack me up.
