Troops march in SD gay parade - in uniform

Jul 21, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: WXOW-TV La Crosse

About 200 active-duty troops participated in last year's San Diego gay pride parade, but they wore T-shirts with their branch's name, not military dress.

Oh, t shirts only.

That seems fair since they can't wear uniforms to political rallies or worship services.

Don't know if they could be in, say, a St. Patty's or Columbus Day parade in uniform or not.

Army regs state that a serviceman may march/walk in parade or assembly, but, not in uniform. It will be mistaken as political speech.Serviceman can wear their off base/duty civilian attire all they want to.

I believe the regulations also say that local commanders may make certain exceptions if the exception won't garner national attention, or something. Which is why this one time decision permitting t shirts only, no uniforms, was kicked upstairs and then allowed. One time.

I now see the t shirt photos were from last year. Some did wear uniforms this year.
