There is a real hatchet job piece in the new National Enquirer about John O'Quinn, that you can see at their website. That sleazy rag tries to insinuate that O'Quinn was killed right before his possible testimony in the John Edwards case. From what I read elsewhere, O'Quinn was rushing to catch a plane and had to go get papers he forgot. I remember from the Ramsey case how Lin Wood was good buddies with several of the reporters from The National Enquirer, they printed all kinds of favorable stories for them, when the mainstream Colorado press weren't giving Team Ramsey suspects of the week the time of day, and Wood allowed the Ramseys to give an interview to the National Enquirer. I'm not saying Wood did, but I wonder who planted this false story about O'Quinn to that rag? I hope someone associated with his will do something about it.

I am not a fan of Wood but this one I doubt he planted. Besides I am sure O'Q would have stated he knew nothing about it which I doubt very highly he did. He donated money to a lot of organization and politicians. He did not run their campaigns or get involved in the nitty-gritty of their sex lives.

Someone planted it. It's a vicious, unfounded smear against John O'Quinn and a LIE about how he died.

MYSTERY DEATH OF JOHN EDWARDS KEY MONEY MAN A top contributor to John Edwards' failed presidential bid was killed just as it appeared he might be called to testify before a federal grand jury probing Edwards' campaign finances. Wealthy Texas attorney John O'Quinn died in a one-car accident on Oct. 29 in Houston. The grand jury in Raleigh, N.C., was considering calling O'Quinn and other major Edwards' contributors in order to complete its investigation, a top government source in Washington, D.C., told The ENQUIRER. John O'Quinn was one of Edwards' biggest contributors and also a close friend of Fred Baron, who was Edwards' national finance chairman. Baron allegedly paid hush money to Edwards' mistress Rielle Hunter and to Andrew Young, Edwards' former loyalist who took part in the cover-up surrounding the ex-senator's out-of-wedlock baby with Rielle. Said the government source: "While there's no indication of wrongdoing in O'Quinn's death, it's weird timing that he was suddenly killed with the grand jury still investigating whether Edwards had broken any campaign finance laws when paying Rielle." Edwards has denied paying hush money, but O'Quinn's violent death adds yet another strange twist to the incredible saga of the slick politician's rapid fall. "There's absolutely no indication that Mr. O'Quinn did anything wrong - or knew about hush money or even knew John Edwards was having an affair," the DC insider said. "But as a top contributor - AND a close friend of Baron - he was among several individuals that the grand jury was considering calling to testify." I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. __________ Mr. Tony Cutliff told us that although the O’Quinn Law Firm was taking care of all of Johnny Lee’s funeral expenses that the family was just now talking to each other about setting up a trust account for Mr. Cutliff’s grandson to insure the education of Johntriel Cutliff. When that fund is set up we will be adding the name of where money can be sent through the funeral home for that trust fund or through the family’s attorney Waverly Nolley’s office. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all who loved Mr. Cutliff, from his family to friends to those who attended church with him weekly, the pain will remain long after the funeral for Mr. Cutliff as this modest man’s family lay him to rest. Mr. Nolley told Fox 26 news on November 2, 2009,“his current goal is to represent the interest of the family in a death case.” Mr. Nolley added it was not appropriate to discuss any legal venues the family might seek prior to Johnny Lee Cutliff be laid to rest. The SUV Mr. O’Quinn was driving at the time of this tragic accident was registered to the John O’Quinn Law Firm. A copy of this obituary of love by Mr. Cutliff’s brother Tony with all of the comments of condolences will be sent to Mr. Cutliff’s family in care of either the funeral home of the family’s attorney after the funeral this weekend. Am I reading this right? The Cutliff family is letting the O'Quinn Law Firm pay for his funeral and suing him at the same time? WTF? Now I've seen it all.

Still, when I received the news of Mr. O'Quinn's death, I was surprised by the tears in my eyes. I remember him cutting a chicken fried steak in half and sharing it with me. I remember all the people who came to our office seeking a champion. Most of those people could not afford a lawyer and were up against large well financed opponents. Mr. O'Quinn leveled the playing field and made the rich and powerful think a little longer before taking advantage of the little guy. I also remember at least a dozen Bibles in his bookshelf, given to him by clients. I remember wondering if he would ever pull those Bibles off the shelf. 20 years later, it sounds like he did read God's Word and make a commitment to Christ. That gives me comfort, knowing that this man has now finally met his own Advocate, Jesus Christ, who will plead his case before God and pay the price for any shortcomings. RIP John and Johnny. 11/4/2009 5:00:57 PM

Don't you think the woman who was with him for twenty five years deserves any of the charity he is giving away? His family lost their financial support with his death. If OQ was as fond of him as is claimed, there is no doubt in my mind he would want the family taken care of, especially since he is giving the money to charity. I know that would be the ones I would want taken care of first if they were my friend and I had caused their death. I hope Mr. Cutliff's family is not the next people on the hate list, snooping in their lives, and all the other rotten things that some have done.

That article was a very nice thing to do for the family left behind, and the subject had nothing to do with a lawsuit. His life was just as important as the rich man.

No offense, but aren't you a part of the "snooping" by discussing it? He was a private person for God's sake. To sau O'Quinn "Caused his death is a little harsh. hasn't it so far been ruled an "accident", and not an "on purpose"?

How do you know that the O'Quinn Law Firm didn't right away offer to take care of that family??? Oh that's right, you don't! You people are heartless vultures! Your side has been after John O'Quinn from DAY 1. It's your side that has had a hate/revenge list. GMAB

Please give Mr O'Quinn's estate a chance to get on its feet and take care of business. The executor was on the Chronicle video today very upset at the loss of his friend of over 40 years for God's sake. Give it a rest and give people some time to catch their breath.

Who was in a rush to smear John O'Quinn and his death before ANY of the facts were in? Like I posted, I HOPE they go after the Enquirer for these outrageous false smears, that I believe were deliberately planted.
