This passes as news, huh?

I've just never been able to justify paying for a bottle of water at work or in a restaurant. If the local tap water is safe to drink then I just fill up a cup or a nalgene bottle from the tap. Then we wonder why Americans are so in debt and finacially broke?? I mean seriously, how much do some people pay for bottled water per year?? A lot I bet. Boy that really ads up and takes a big chunk out of your savings.

This IS news, Icy, because of the insane amount of money that Americans spend on bottled water (more money than on soda drinks, to give you an idea). Just think of how much this could reduce carbon emissions as the bottled water is transported around the globe (think Fiji Water: it has to be FLOWN into the U.S.), across the country, and all those *millions* of plastic bottles that lazy American don't recycle (and that sit in landfills for a few thousand years instead). THAT'S NEWS, don't you think?

I am sure we all know some people with their nose in the air and cases of bottled water in their homes. They think they are too good for tap water.
Sarah: You really think we spend more money on water than soda drinks? I am not sure I agree with you on that. Can you show me some figures? |
|
|
why on EARTH would someone want to contribute to garbage we already have by adding those millions of empty BOTTLES back into the environment? And before you talk about recycling, I work for a company that ships "recycled" products back to emerging third world countries, just to be dumped into their wastelands, so how is that RECYCLING?? Most tap water is plenty fine (however, I have to say the water that came out of my tap when I lived at Belleview and Federal in Denver 10 yrs ago left a LOT to be desired, we did use bottled water in our home then).

Good I think they should be banned outright. 2 million plastic bottles are consumed in the US every five mintues and most of them end up in landfills.

Not really, because I'm not a liberal and I have more important things to focus my energy on, but thanks. |

I think people want purified water, if it comes from the tap and purified then great, the plastic adds up, but here in Fort Collins, I do not want the flouride added plus the other chemicals. No I don't believe all the people who say tap water is perfectly fine to drink, and I'd rather not wait years down the road to hear otherwise. How many times have you heard something is perfectly fine, and then years down the road, the story changes? lets get rid of the waiste, but not the purified water

What do you think they want to be; cool, healthy, not thirsty anymore perhaps? |

5 bucks for a 24 pack of water...2 bottles a day... less than 15 bucks a month.
man i was wondering were all my money was going!? thanks guys for convincing me to save my budget and stop ruining the planet via bottled water. i'm so inspired and have so much money that from now on i'm going to walk to Liberal Lefty's environmentally friendly local coffee shop and get uhhhhhh 3 lattes?=/ |

Did you know that toxins leach into the water from the plastic bottles? What a lemming!

NEW STUDIES ARE SHOWING THE LEVEL OF ESTROGEN IN MEN FROM DRINKING TAP WATER IS INCREASING AT AN ALARMING RATE. THIS IS CAUSED FROM FERTILE WEMAN ON BIRTH CONTROL URINATING IN TOILETS GOING THROUGH OUR WATER TREATMENT PLANTS UNDETECTED OR PURIFIED. THIS CAUSES OBESITY AND BOOBS ON MEN. SO DRINK THAT TAP WATER IN RESTURANTS IF YOU WANT TO BECOME A SISY.

"A sissy"? From water?
On the Monday morning you get up and the news is that the water system has been contaminated in Denver, Greeley, or other city, and you have to boil your water for a minute to use it, that bottled water is going to look very good. That has happened. As long as municipalities do not lie to citizens and really do produce clean water, bottled water is not necessary. I currently live in China and bottled water is all you can drink. There is no potable water. I do take showers and wash laundry in the city water, but cooking and drinking and washing food happens out of the 5 gallons of treated water I buy every 5 to6 days. You always stick a small bottle of water in your day pack before going to class. The saving grace is that a bottle of cold, purified water here costs 1 RMB, equal to 7.5 cents. So, the water bottlers in America are screwing you painfully. |

i am guilty of buying bottled water .. but i suppose its more for the convenience than the fact that i don't want to drink tap water.
i was also one of the ones duped into thinking that it was more pure than tap water .. and jump back when i find out all it IS is tap water .. UGH!! since i learned that .. i have not purchased bottled water. the end |
Back in the 1980's (?) a group of college students conducted an experiment. They took bottles and filled them with ordinary tap water; then, they marketed their product. They named it EVIAN. What does this spell backwards? Just a little tidbit :-) |

That is the stupidest thing I read all week.
