Cut us a break. I worked in university public safety for many years it is part of the job. Is it time for the bar to have a legal battle No! It is time for the parents, schools and universities to do their job with education on alcohol, alcohol related issues and how to use self-control! I would have every support University of Scranton if they lock up a underage drinker that Goodfellas served that with the LCB and the lawyers they get pinned to the wall for that. But to close a man's livelyhood for you inablity to control others no!

It appears that the univeristy is not looking to close the bar but continue developing responsible, productive members of society.

Any business person knows that positioning is a major marketing factor and a bar so close to campus is not a mistake.

My question is, if this bar were 3 blocks farther from campus, would it be an issue?

the school should mind it's own business and let the owner mind his. It sounds like a wonderful place for young adults to unwind and socialize. There are laws against serving visibly drunk patrons. Let the business owner do his job

The University of Scranton should continue to crack down and sue this guy. the guy couldn't cut it at the U. Too many college students end up as alcoholics, and on probation as the result of aquiring a drinking adiction during their college years.

Students these days should be aware of alchohol ABUSE. Its normal to have a shot and a beer once in a while and hang out.Look at all the bars across the street at penn state.European kids don't have a problem. On a budget, students will buy a case of beer anyway....(dope is the bigger problem)...

Penn State has literally 15 bars just across the street from campus, including a hooters less than100ft from an all female dormitory.

And this university complains about one law abiding business? This is really pushing it.

Too bad the bar can't sue the university straight up for harrassment.

Well, are they going to limit all activities that they think are unsafe?
You have to grow up one way or another you should not depend on your school to eliminate all dangers.
Should we bring back prohabition?

The fact that they want to expand to add more activities sounds to me like it would be a great place to go! I mean I would have loved to have a place like that when I went to college. If there are kids becoming alcoholics it isn't the business owners fault or his responsibility. No one is forcing these kids to go and drink here and if they are abiding to the law they've already been understanding by closing early most nights and not allowing the sales of six packs after midnight. The University needs to back off...

The bar should be able to sue the college, because the school's claims are idiotic. In Europe, where the drinking age for beer is 18 and sometimes 16, they have alcohol being sold everywhere including next to and WITHIN the college. Their alcoholism rate is a fraction of ours.

These neo-prohibitionists are nothing but a bunch of trouble making goons. They cause considerably more trouble than they are worth.

Wake up, sheeple! The liberalization of Amerika is turning our country into a Socialist society. Obviously people should not be able to make conscious decisions for themselves. Let the Government do it for you.

How about this; if you're concerned about your grades or becoming an alcoholic......DON'T GO TO THE BAR.

Oh brother! Can't college students be responsible for their own behavior? Like there are no other bars in Scranton! Give me a break! The school is totally in the wrong here...jerks. The majority of colleges in this country have bars that are practically on campus. There's ALWAYS a way to get booze. Lighten up, U of S!!!

Drinking responsibly is part of growing up. Puke enough you should learn something by it?

I am dead set against students thinking going to college is a party for personal reasons. I got 4 of them renting next door. Some nights there's 30+ underage drunks unsupervised screaming at top of lungs. Making life living hell for the neighborhood. They should take that to a bar designed to handle it and be supervised and verified age. A bunch of 17-18 year olds drinking in a basement not designed for safety (fire, etc.) is far worse believe me!

I'd rather colleges concern themselves with cracking down on off campus out of control clubhouses then licensed establishments. This college, if it succeeds in it's effort with the bar will have worse drinking on their hands scattered over many miles in unknown locations in underground student housing. At least you know their in one place and can be properly enforced.

If kids are not exposed to water they will never learn to swim. Yeah some will drown by stupidly, but a greater number learn to deal with water for their enjoyment. Should we take away all the swimming pools because of a few determined fools?

The more restrictions put in place, the greater the lure becomes of the desired prohibited item. You can't save everybody from their selves.

In response to Hashem statement of all the city of Scranton does for the university, I believe it is just the opposite. Without the university, the city of Scranton would become a ghost town like many of the other towns in the coal regions.

God Bless the University and their courage to sue Hashem. Continue to protect the students.

How about the students being responsible for themselves?!?!?

Don't blame the bar owner. I went to a college with plenty of bars around and yet I managed to not go in any of them as I was under-age. When are people going to be held accountable for their own actions?

I guess you live in the west end of allentown. Me too. Them living off campus is what we got from Muhlenberg cracking down. If the college succeeds now the people of scranton that live around the school will have to deal with their crap.

i remember being in high school and going up the hill seciton at u parties to drink. so a sports bar may actually curb underage drinking. less house parties.

Have a great deal of respect for the University of Scranton and am wondering if they would have involved themselves with this issue if it weren't for the pressure from parents. They are going to drink, face that fact, and now they will just party more at houses on and off campus or worse, farther from campus. The person who claims this causes the students to become alcoholics could not be more wrong.
