I am an investment real estate broker who specializes in sale of office buildings, strip malls, etc – mostly $10 - $30 million transaction size. I received a call from “Todd Armstrong” with a 206 area code this week. He said he was party of a group of wealthy older men who wanted to start a private equity group to invest in commercial real estate after a market crash. There is nothing particularly unusual about this, there are lots of legitimate groups out there with the same objective. He seemed very knowledgeable and I did not doubt at the time that he was for real. However, his e-mail is an anonymous “vistomail” address, and he wants to use encrypted communications and Skype for everything. He said he is looking for someone to manage the fund and earn fees. The fees he mentioned were generally in the market range. The reason I am here is when I googled his name, I found several entries in this forum from 2006/2007 with his name and a somewhat similar story stating that this is a scam. Can not figure out what the angle is or what he would have to gain. Would appreciate any feedback, thanks.
