Goodnight Agami

Enterprise storage company Agami Systems has shut down, sources tell peHUB. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company had raised around $90 million in VC funding since 2003, including a $45 million Series C infusion ...

The Senior Management would seem to be doing things in a very underhanded way. Apparently the CEO is restarting a new company with the IP that was just about to be released. This is after firing all his employees with no notice, and no healthcare, and no expense reimbursments. Oh, he also fired all his debt and shareholders too.

Nice.

From the comment above, it doesn't look like Agami had any type of help in finding their employees new work.

I'm a Lead Technical Recruiter at VMware and would welcome anyone who left Agami to send me their resume.

This has become a famous formula. Find a niche product. Start a company; find VC's, hire employees with decent salary and promising shares. Employees work hard, put in extra hours to meet deadlines, ensure quality expecting profits for companies. If it runs into profits, the expectation is that it will go public. Right at the time that people on top see the stability of the product, they shut down everything leaving employees nowhere. Someone on the top buys IP for dirt cheap and floats a new company. And this is not the first company in bayarea. This has been repeating and this will be repeating. On and on and on. The formula is same. People and product differ. Every such company has one Kumar, one Babu, one Muthu, or one Swami.
In this entire process, the Employees are screwed. All those stocks they earned or bought are just a piece of paper their kids can play with.

Well, no underhanded dealings are needed to explain Agami's failure. Agami's product line was a five year old design with pretty much no change other than bigger drives and faster processors over that time. I have no info about any new products they had in the pipeline but it was over 2 1/2 years since their last major product introduction and in high tech you simply cannot survive that. My suspicion is that the investors were concerned about this and had Agami on a "dribble" plan where they dribbled out a little money each month to meet that month's expenses and decided whether to fund it for the next month based on what they saw. Obviously they didn't like what they saw.

I bought my shares and hoped to get something out of them to help with my financial situation that wasn't doing so well because the salaries aren't that great based on today's cost to just LIVE. It's very disconcerting that I lost everything in the way of hopes and the money I paid to buy them. This I did not expect. I expected ethical business dealings.

I think their needs to be an incentive to not do this instead of to do it. Like a huge payout to employees who bought their shares. That might help to curtail this kind of behavior made by unscrupulous management.

As a former Agami employee who left the company at its peak, I am saddened by this. And yes, I also bought my stock options, having faith in the company line. Oh well. I would like to think Stiles is not involved in dirty dealings like this, but it's hard not think the worse when something like this happens so suddenly.

I was invited to the famous lunch with Stiles (one of the 27 chosen) after the announcement.
Getting a offer the same day the company close – looks like all was part of a plan.
New company “Scalable Storage Systems”. No sales department.
The new product is a great one (all agami know that). Selling the product via reseller (will not provide name) via existing worldwide network.
I need to work, but am looking to bail out as soon as I can.
I hope my friends will find jobs and working visa soon.

Wrong. agami had a hot new product already in customer beta. It was due to be announced at VMWorld or SNW in October. I scalable box from 12 drives to 1920. Scalable in perfomance from 2 cores to many many cores. Closing the company just before it was about to hit was apparently all part of the grand plan of a few key execs.

Could anyone help me find an Agami power supply? I have a client running on one, with one failed. he is in a compromised state. Please supply the name of the reseller who is selling the newly launched firm with Agami's IP.
Thanks,

The Agami power supply is a standard Taiwanese power supply from one of the standard power supply vendors. It's been years since I saw one, but I seem to recall that the vendor's name is on the thing. The only Agami-specific thing about the power supply system is the "motherboard" that's in the chassis, which has an Agami-specific program on its PIC chip to provide various i2c data to the filer software and to shut down if certain number of power supplies burn out. But the actual slide-in part is utterly standard should be purchasable from any electronics distributor such as Mouser or Arrow or etc.

I have been selling storage devices for ten years and did so for agami. I was misled the entire time i was selling agami and I apologize to my custmoers for the bumbling actions of a misguided CEO and whatever Kumar was suppose to be doing for the company. Don't worry Karma will surely bite both of those tools in the ars one day.

What a stupid name for the new company by the way!!!

Did you get the power supply? I can get one for your client if you still need one.
