After administrative overhead, etc. I can't imagine $147k going very far to feed the vast NN or to purchase equipment and improve facilities needed to provide food assistance (new computers anyone?). And this is assuming the NN uses these funds as intended.

The Navajo nation claims to be a nation within a nation so why do we as taxpayers of a defferant country have to support or supply them anything! Now that is the big question that everybody seems to be not asking!

How much do you want to bet this food ends up on the tables of so-called trusted Tribal officials? Not to mention their family members. What equipment and what facilities? They all go to immediate family members. We as community members are not only aware of it, but, we see it. Just like the Boys and Girls Clubs, when they get a large shipment of donated food/materials. Guess who gets it all?

Taxpayers? You sure sound like Native don't pay taxes. We pay taxes just like anyone else.
We are the first nation of all times; before you people even exist here. How about you pay your rent and taxes from the time your people arrive here when they got lost?
Us Natives keep your business going by paying taxes in your cities. Some of us don't appreciate your stupid comments.
More funds are spent in your own cities.

Right on, man, give 'em hell. These bickering radical and racist idiots needs education in history, not by their own kinds but by the Natives who are paying taxes every day and have lived on this nation long before they came.

I like to say to "whoa" this uneducated jerk. This is one time I have to speak up for the officials of Navajos. The food, food stamps, and the likes do go to the needy and does not end up on the plates of the officials relatives. The guidelines pertaining to distributions are very strict and cumbersome. Come and see for yourself of how the red tape works. Try to become eligible and you will probably be denied, because you are not of the grass-roots natives.

Obviously, "Irked jerk" is not educated either. How would you know what being a grass-roots Native is...being from NY? Or, is that even your real address. I've seen the red tape, so-called guidelines, etc. I don't know a grassroot Native who's proud to qualify for assistance, or rather, handouts. Sadly, it IS TAKEN by people that have been entrusted. Again, I'm only speaking on my experience and MY community. Thank you for your response.

that's why this makes me so angry. Anytime something happens that involves a person of another race, the Natives say"we're gonna band together and do this or do that, boycott Farmington, or whatever. Why do they not band together and do something about all the goings-on with the higher-ups in the tribe. There are plenty of them to get something done.

Why does this happen? Instead of handouts give the people irrigated land from NAPI, as it was intended in the original plans. Let the people grow thier own food. Everyone is aware that that the communist-based work farm doesn't make a profit or provide for the people. I'm sure there are a lot of small time Navajo farmers willing to plant and work a several acres of irrigated land and eat what they grow and sell the rest. Hand outs of Blue Bird Flour and commidity cheese helps noone but to make people fat and lazy.

I often wonder just how much of "OUR" taxes acually go towards Indian tribes???
From every $300 dollars I make, about $50 dollors of that go to taxes and such..
Social security gets the bulk of it, Medicaid is next, Federal and than State and workman's comp...
Hmmmm, maybe one YOU non-Indian Intellectuals can figure this out?
Come on, lets see just how much the "AVERAGE" taxpayer is paying into these coffer's... YES?
Something like this is just as confusing as to WHO gets the best benefit from Gaming and casino profits..
I'll checking on this issue...
:P

Maybe you don't see what the money is being spent on, because YOU live in the city, maybe????

On the "REZ" it's a different story, dude...

There are many UNPAVED roads that always need grading...

There's really no running water pipe lines like that in a city...so that means no Crapper to use, gotta go the OUTHOUSE...

hmmmm, no GASLINES go to every residence like that in a city... gotta use PROPANE...

Ya see, DORK, the way of life is very, very DIFFERENT oh the Resevation compared to what YOU take for GRANTED every single day and night...

No, if the Forces that be, ALLOW us to progress, YOU and others will see that the Navajo nation and other tribes can take care of themselves...

YES??

So, when YOU think that YOUR society doesn't require help, then why does the Governor of disaster affected state's ask for Federal aid as well...

and as far as UNEMPLOYED INDIAN's go, then why don't "WE" get hired as often as NON-INDIAN people do...

so, WHAT's UP WITH THAT???

Hmmm...

My point is, YOU had better do some research before YOU mouth off about something YOU really don't know about....

;)
