Lousy reporting.

Headline: Horses could soon be slaughtered in US for human food after Congress lifts ban on inspections

But later it says, "Although there are reports of Americans dining on horse meat a recently as the 1940s, the practice is virtually non-existent in this country..."

OTOH, there's this, "The last U.S. slaughterhouse that butchered horses closed in 2007 in Illinois...."

So... if horses were not used for food since the 1940's, then what was the horse slaughterhouse doing with the meat?

Wait a sec, "Horses could soon be butchered in the U.S. for human consumption after Congress quietly lifted a 5-year-old ban on funding horse meat inspections".

So the practice hasn't been done in 5 years but inspectors were still being funded?

And let's not forget from paragraph one, "and activists say slaughterhouses could be up and running in as little as a month."

Gee... nothing like the credible word of an activist connecting dots that don't exist.

Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., said the poor economy has resulted in "sad cases" of horse abandonment and neglect and lifting the ban will give Americans a shot at regaining lost jobs and making sure sick horses aren't abandoned or mistreated.
Once again Theat FREAGGIN BAUCUS..is on the Wrong track
In Europe they eat anything, even Horses...OBAMA wants the US to be like Europe.....
They estimate a slaughterhouse could open in 30 to 90 days with state approval and eventually as many as 200,000 horses a year could be slaughtered for human consumption. Most of the meat would be shipped to Europe and Asia, where it's treated as a delicacy.
Whats Next DOGS??? Those Asians eat dogs also!
this is UN AMERICAN!..so to his HUSSEIN!
They don't slaughter sick animals for human consumption. Or are not supposed to. Not right to kill these majestic animals to eat.

They put it in dog food under meat. NOt horse meat. And other critter products as well.I was disgusted when I found this out. Mostly cheaper brands. But you had to be careful if you did not want to fund horse slaughter.

Gee what nationality is causing this, I would say pretty much Americans don't eat horse meat.
This country just goes down hill more and more each day.
Next they will serve up dogs, cats and any rodent they can.

Rattle snake is a better meal, raise that, or eat Emus. Ostrich, way many better options.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Virgo

You're feeling restless and need to introduce as much variety into your day as possible. However, you'll want this to be on your own terms, and you certainly won't like it if plans are changed without your consent or you feel you've lost control of the situation. Try to take everything in your stride, otherwise you'll end up feeling exhausted and frazzled.
