We are supposed to get excited about this apparently while ignoring the fact that these electronic systems were promoted and introduced at least in part to do the farmers markets out of business they were already getting with paper food stamps and to direct food stamp money to corporate grocers and away from small business. What a ridiculous waste! Go back to paper food stamps and get rid of big brother.

Perfect - taxpayers subsidies for the farmers to grow the product and now taxpayer subsidies for the people buying the subsidized products at the farm stand. Where does it ever end.

This is not only good business but it also keeps EBT funds being spent on wholesome foods - not banquet fried chicken m&m's, pepsi, pringles, etc. as a farmer in Northern Michigan, I just got my USDA application in the mail to be able to accept EBT here on our farm. Nobody at the USDA that I talked to knew of any farmer's running it at their farms, but I am going to try.

I agree Nina, is this just another fig leaf program to promote these cashless type transactions to further usher in a debit/credit system run by the criminal 'money changers' and allowing them to further their death grip over every citizens'*private* transactions? Sound money should be king, and in the absence of that perhaps we'll still have to settle for fiat currency. I pay cash whenever possible, the banksters and their minions have WAAAYYYYY too much control as it is (look at what a mess economically we have already. Giving them even more control over our lives is self defeating, IMO.

If a person is taking welfare and entitlements, I don't see a problem with the government monitoring where the money is being spent. If you don't like a few conditons attached to your freebees, don't take them!

Informer, first I would like to see MUCH less "welfare" BOTH to the individual who won't work AND as well corporate welfare handouts to cronies, who simply suck off of the System like parasites.(Where does the biggest slice of the "welfare" pie go though and who BUYS *access* to it?) Regardless, let's shut off the spigot (taxes) to it ALL, as it's being wasted faster than American's can even pay the INTEREST on it.

How exactly though can 'government' be trusted to monitor ANYTHING in the way of "entitlements and welfare' they can't (read WON'T) even keep track of TRILLIONS(according to Rumsfeld) of 'lost/stolen' taxpayer dollars (Can't anyone find a good unemployed college educated accountant?) For evey dollar paid off to keep some street level criminal happy and contented how many millions end up being syphoned off into upper eschelon criminal Elitist coffers. Seeing what Joe six pack buys at a farmers market seems like small potatoes when one realizes the huge sums being handed over in the back rooms in The District of Corruption. Perhaps THERE is where one needs to issue TAXPAYER credits(if we HAVE to be stolen from) that can be monitored by We The People as to how it is spent(stolen).

I agree with your points concerning individual and corporate welfare, however two wrongs don't make a right. Those receiving welfare should have no problem with some oversight.

cash should be done away with along with gift cards, it would kill most of the illegal drug trade along with the under ground economy involving illegal workers, tax evasion which is done by most small businesses from motel owners to restuarants and store owners.

I stopped at a motel, guys credit card machine wouldn't work, probably hardly ever works and he probably only reports half the business he does and applies for food stamps.

It's easy to get good prices from small business owners, just ask them what's the best they can do if you pay cash and don't need a receipt, the tax evasion dollars signs flash in their eyes and the price is good.

In a place like vermont, bubba's firewood for cash allows bubba to not only get around paying income and social security taxes, it also allows him to get the property tax discount and qualify for food stamps, heating oil assistance, college assitance for his kis and every other racket going.

Only criminals have a meltdown about becoming a cashless society because they sure don't want the government tracking their transactions and let the people who work for w-2's pay all the taxes and disqualify themselves from government programs. Welfare handouts would probably be cut in half and tax revenue double if we became a cashless society.

Tax cheating is one of the big reasons why we need to do away with the income tax. A consumption tax is the way to go because even drug dealers and people in the underground economy have to eat and buy things.
