In our comp class at devry we are discussing the issues of food safety. One book we are reading is "The Ominivore's Dilemma" . It is a very interesting read along with the pbs special called "Food" . Both resources are very interesting.

While this story covers antibiotics in milk, I would be curious to know the acceptable drug content in meat, especially poultry. Also, just because it says "organic" doesn't mean it's a safer/healthier alternative, in fact-it's not. There are better safeguards in place for "non-organic" meat.

All of us can go out and buy organic but that will not feed the world in 20 years. Oh and don't forget to compare the carbon footprint of conventional vs. organic farming practices.

I love the growth hormone they give cows. Now, instead of the skinny Indian girl running the register at the Speedway being flat chested....she's got a rack like a Bollywood superstar! Keep eating the McDonalds and washing it down with 2%!! God Bless 'em!

Ohio is home to the Snowville Creamery. Snowville seems to be a successful business model in producing high quality milk products void of such contaminants. Although more expensive than factory-farm milk, it is healthier, AND tastes like milk used to taste when I was a kid (50 yrs ago). Consumers like myself are more than happy to pay extra for excellent quality and safety. Cheap, mass produced food tends to be unhealthy food. Our society is addicted to cheap mass produced food, and look at the general health of the population (obesity, diabetes, hypertension, etc). Pay extra. Eat healthy.

Cows are meant to be grass fed not corn/grain fed. They will have way fewer infections if grass fed. Buy only from local farmers that pasture (grass feed) only. Also farmers use antibiotics to make the cow larger, not always for infections. So when people say why are their so many(bacterial) superbugs, why are people so sick, why is their so much cancer. Now you know a big part of the problem- factory farming-

It takes around 2000 gallons of water to produce one gallon of milk. Stop drinking milk. Adult humans don't need it.

I can tell you it's B-S when farmers claim there is no harm from antibiotis and everything else they pump into cows. Case in point: Lactose levels in 'regular' milk. I'm lactose intollerant and regular milk, even small quantities makes me incredibly ill. Organic milk however, I have not problems with and can drink large quantities with no side effect. I made this discovery when a hippy dude at the Kroger's checkout asked me why I was buying both Lactaid milk and also a carton of Organic. I told him the organic was for my kids and the Lactaid milk was for me. He told me that if I am lactose intollerant I could drink organic milk without any trouble. And...he was right!

Do nursing mothers need to get tested before they nurse their babies??? Anti-depressants, and any other RX that she takes gets into the babies "food chain." We worry about too much. Just remember, don't complain about farming with your month full.

All the more reason to be a Vegan. And yes...being a Vegan is healthy for you. You DO NOT need meat, eggs, dairy or any other animal products in your system to be healthy. PERIOD!!!!!!!! Meat is nasty from the time they slaughter the animal to the time it's in your kitchen when you prepare it to when your cutting it on your plate. All slimy and bloody and stringy and fat and nasty.

I don't buy this argument at all, you sound as though the very thought of a piece of meat offends you, right down to its texture. You have offered no supporting evidence for your argument just that meat in your opinion is 'nasty, stringy and bloody'. Are all vegans squeamish whining little whelps like yourself? Keep it up, more meat for me!

Keep it up, more meat for me! Looking at the name you gave on your post explains EVERYTHING to me. I actually have no need or desire to explain ANYTHING to you because I am sure with your 6th grade mentality you wouldn't understand anyways. I am very surprised that you haven't burned down your 12x60 trailer from frying all that meat in lard!!! And yes...you can have my share of meat.

I feel like anymore we are all "Danged if we do and danged if we don't"!! One way or another something we eat or drink, will make us fatter, give us cancer, etc. It's a scary thing when you are at the mercy of others and depend on them for food. Your almost wanting to just eat cardboard and drink, well water is contaminated too, so what do you drink????
