Full story: WYFF-TV Greenville

Forget designer strollers and organic baby formula, just providing a child with the basics has become more than most parents can afford.

The country is full of spoiled rotten brats whose parents have nearly killed themselves providing the best of everything. The big home in the best neighborhood, the best private school, the Iphone, the Ipad, the new car, the designer clothes, the expensive college...and what I see are a lot of not too intelligent young people who are immature, self-centered, materialistic and have a serious lack of empathy and sympathy for anyone.

Not all of them, of course, but a great many have had life so easy they think everything they want should show up on the doorstep. Look at thousands who show up for American Idol auditions and whine and cry when they're told they sing like a toad. "This is my whoooole life. It's all I've ever wanted to do...." Welcome to the real world, kid. Despite what all the inspirational blogs tell you, your dreams do NOT always come true.

If nothing else, a crashing economy might be just the thing kids need to humble them and make them appreciate life beyond THEIR personal wants.

Not when you are on welfare and the state pays for it.

If you have another kid you get paid for it.

The kid comes out and you just hit the lottery.

Unlike working people they don't get a raise when they have another kid.

To those living on the government dole, having more children is profit. We have a generation that thinks they're entitled to government money.

I don't want to live in a society where most children are born to poor people living on wellfare with no parenting skills.

Please, God, spare me that future.

If you are smart and financially responsible, then that's all the more reason to have kids. We don't want to wake up one day and find ourselves outnumbered. Really stop and think about it.

With numbers that indicate over 50% of children are bastards, its no wonder they are a burden and an excuse.

Irresponsible mothers, week end Uncles,Drugs,Poverty...and of course its the kids fault, like some say here....Eating is no luxury! The Food stamp program is at its highest coverage ever!..Emergency rooms jammed, hand me down stores booming, and Pawn shops thriving/

This is not the kids fault.Of course food costs are climbing...Guess what? Ethoynal has contributed mightily to FOOD prices going up,while food is going out exhaust pipes!

Education is needed as to the responsibility of a family.but When conceived in a the back seat of a car, stoned,by an unknown partner,at 13,14,15,16,yrs old...WE GOT A BIG PROBLEM

It may be to instruct young people to not have kids, but rather raise GOLD FISH!..Eating off the Dollar menu at MICKEY Ds" helps!!

its ironic the First FAT ASS in DC claims our kids are too fat..so what Is It??..seems they are eating OK!...DO IT???

The Obama instigated inflation now devastating America's future may be part of Michele's anti-obesity campaign. It's how Communists do things... not morally sustainable, but it increasingly establishes their centralized power.

Very seldom agree with you, but you've made good point here. However, do YOU want to be the one to make children suffer for the stupidity of their parents. Should children go hungry because they were born to lazy parents?

And that's the problem with a lot of welfare. The children are pawns. Where do you draw the line?

I'll also add to your first sentence that being married guarantees nothing. I was married for 17 years when my ex walked off and left his only biological child behind. I didn't go on welfare, but I got extremely lucky that I landed a job (after 13 years as a stay at home mom) with a company that gave me a chance to prove myself. When I started I didn't even know how to operate a fax machine, 12 years later I'm running a medical fellowship program for a major university.

Not everyone gets breaks or opportunities like that these days. Had I had to take a low wage job at Wal-mart, I don't know what I'd have done. Things would have been very different for me AND my son.

Take a look at tax deductions and credits, you the taxpayer subsidize not only the poor but the middle class and rich. I've just started looking and, so far, I don't find much that doesn't have a tax loophole.
Trouble is that as wages fall for most Americans those loopholes may be the only way to maintain a their standard of living. Of course many of you believe that if you can't afford it you shouldn't be able to get it. Maybe, but I wonder how you will feel when the loopholes you get are eliminated.

Now doubt in my mind Tidy catz, your the right stuff. You are also proof of the currant statics of divorce rates, abandonments.I do not know your age....This as sung in that song "We are family"..With no daddys!

Being married for 59yrs now,and blessed with a big tribe, it was rare ,but of course "SPLITS" happened. Some girls stood by their DRUNKS,and some boys toughed out with some flirt of a wife.

Now without you having a conniption,I seen the years erodeing ,for a long time ....Kids came home from the wars, married, raised kids, sent them to College at great cost...Then it happened..The 60s and the 70s....My world of values became UP SIDE DOWN.

We had a farm in upstate ny...Bethel NY...And that August 15 to August 18, 1969..really was a revelation of sorts..a scant 3 miles from the site.My barns, were filled with long haired kids,in costumes, stoned ,sick wet and muddy..like HOT HUMMPING WART HOGS!..The smell of vomit all over.I herded my children ,into a safe place...My wife brought them peanut and Jelly and cold milk.
We thought the world ended..and city Rats leaving there!

it was a terrible year 1969.Woodstock,...Assassinatio ns,Rock and Roll,Dope, Bastard Manufacturing, a total statement of the destruction of old standred values1' MANSON,FRISCO,RIOTS?...Hippys, draft card burners, spiting on the kids in uniforms..burning flags.Terrible!!

One uplifting thing tho....our Flag was planted on the Moon

When yo talk KIDS,yer talking to an expert,I Made them, many of them,I raised them,I raised their kids, and yes I'm raising my kids kids, kids

For you see I'M A RIVER TO MY PEOPLE..they say KEEP FLOWING OLD MAN!

So I excuse yer loony stuff..not yer fault...its not with out good reason mine was called the GREATEST GENERATION,,All survived in the GREAT DEPRESSION..All LOOKED out for one another.with so much less SECRETE??? the kitchen table...MOMMY,DADDY,CHILDREN sat there and would you believe ..COMMUNICATED WITH EACH OTHER!!.my how times have changed!!...

However every generation can be the greatest...Those who are GREAT are never noted, only the Scum, dirt bags get the headlines.
I feel there is hope for you,but as of today???? Yer a LOONY KID!!LOL!!

Well I BLOVIATED ENOUGH...good luck kid!!

For those of you that want to look at data rather than the Bull Droppings inspired by Joe G's maxims the link below gives historical inflation rate. Obama reign doesn't seem any worse that many others. I suggest we flush GetFlushed's comments.

For tax payers, yes.

Welfare recipients get over a thousand dollars per month for each kid they crank out.

Ghetto moms are known to be grand-mothers at age 28.
Mothers at age 14.
Many have 10-15 kids from as many different/unknown sperm donors.

These females have a financial incentive to bring more kids into the world.

These are the kids you see roaming the streets at midnight.

And YOUUU, the tax payers, are supporting this perpetual lifestyle.

And how do they pay it back?
With crime, naturally.

Liberals considered them and their behavior to be politically correct.

This is yet another case where there seems to be a disconnect between the title or intended subject of the story and the actual content of the story. The article talks about how the cost of groceries, gas, rent and utilities have increased by as much as 40% of the past 20 years.
There is nothing in the article specific to raising a child, except the cost of child care. Of course families pay more for child care compared to 20 years ago, since both parents are working these days.
Honestly, a mom would probably do better these days landing a job at a daycare than working in retail sales. If the kids are pre-school age, a compelling financial argument could be made for a married woman not working outside the home at all, unless she's earning >=$30,000.

Our biggest expense is daycare. When my son (13) was in daycare (pre-k) it was $150/week. Now, 10 years later, for my daughter (3) it is $300/week. Same daycare. I asked to owner why it's so much now. He says mostly it's insurance, taxes and utilities. All of which have trippled at our house too in the last 10 years.

Oh come on, you know we have to scapegoat the parents and cry that they're all on welfare and ignore all those honest hard-working class families trying to raise kids on minimum wage jobs or the stagnation of wages since the 1970's or the insatiable greed for profits of the ruling elite that is destroying our country.

If we didn't blame the victims, we might start blaming the real causes and that might lead to *gasp* working class anger at the ruling elite and socialist solutions that benefit the workers!
