I think if marriage is what you want go for it gay or straight and you should be allowed to do so. It's what you do with your life together that counts. They say right before you die your life flashes before you, just make sure yours is worth watching. My husband and I were married the same year as three couples who were friends of ours. We were all in each other's weddings, etc. Of the four couples, we are the only ones still married. One of the guys is on his fourth marriage, one of the women is on her third. All have multiple sets of kids from different marriages. One of the men has a son who is 27 and just had a new baby with his new, much younger wife. Giving gays the same rights as everyone else will not guarantee long marriages for them, but it will guarantee them the same spousal rights that everyone else has in this great country. We simply cannot continue to treat gays as second class citizens.

The question I keep asking myself is Who is going to get f'ed the most in the first ever gay divorce As a twice divorced on my third marriage guy The idea just keeps popping into my head. actually, neither do I. I just get miffed when folks that ARE winning up and change the game and THEN cry foul. apparently, the issue isn't so much about equality as it is about disparaging religion and religious folks. civility and common sense would say one must crawl before they walk, etc... now they just come across as whinny juveniles stomping their feet and screaming,'Me, me, me!' and 'Now, now, now!'. that puts the whole gay rights movement in the same boat as Progressives and subversives that can't wait to change things the legal, lawful, civil way... the SLOW, Constitutional and generational way (taking small victories and letting public opinion catch up). oh, well, not even the subject of this forum anyway...

Tired of Silly wrote: <quoted text> OK.......then let's stop calling ANY license obtained from the government a "marriage" license. If the "sanctity" <gag> of "marriage" is so defiled by gays doing it, then eliminate the "marriage license" entirely and call it a "civil union" license. The "marriage" can occur in whatever house of worshipping make-believe beings the couple chooses. It's about EQUALITY, Higgans. It's about treating a large segment of the population as second-class citizens because their nature does not fit judeo-christian traditions. Obviously, I believe in marriage, I've been happily married for 34 years. However, I was not married in a church because neither of us believe in imaginary beings. We had a beautiful garden wedding with a judge friend as the officiant. Zero religious content in the ceremony. And yet we are accepted as married because we are a man and a woman, not 2 men or 2 women. Our marriage is legal because we got a marriage license at the courthouse. This simply should not be an issue. The concept of marriage is not inherently religious, it is about love, commitment, and a promise to stay together for the rest of your natural life. In order to carry out the basic American value of EQUALITY, either EVERYONE must be permitted to legally marry their life partner of choice, or NO ONE should be permitted to do it. already expressed my opinion on this subject... futher dialogue is fruitless. plan on being disappointed on this issue for quite a while to come, tho. just saying... oh, while u don't believe in god, I believe in karma... what goes around comes around. sorry to hear about ur groups marriage batting avg, too. almost 41 years ago my wife and I started our group of friends off. four marriages, one divorce and a remarriage and she's now a widow. u do know that the much bally-hooed 'divorce rate' is gleaned from ALL marriages, first thru ??? first time marriages still go the distance well over 51%. look it up... it's been about a decade since that old anti-marriage BS stat was debunked. any way... GZ has spent his LAST night in jail.

BUT if it IS purely a legal arrangement, why this over-the-top push for the 'word' marriage? is not a civil union also the same legal arrangement? and, solve the same legal problems? I could give a flying rat's ass what THEY refer to their 'joining' in private or amongst like-minded folks. it is this radical insistance that it is either 'marriage' or discrimination that is the sticking point. like all laws, making something 'legal' will NOT change people's perceptions and their opinions and reactions. whereas, a civil agreement to bestow the legal status of a civil union would be much more palatable to the masses, of which the MAJORITY still hold some sort of religious beliefs. don't u realize that in one or two generations AFTER such a civil agreement, THE POINT WOULD BECOME MOOT? despite the perceptions of the radical Black Movement, like in this tragedy, race relations in this Country are FAR better than in MLK's day. but, I guess one would have to had lived thru those changes to KNOW that. like living thru the Cold War period and seeing what has become of OUR government and ITS socialist/communist leanings compared to the 50s and 60s, when 'Better Dead than Red' had REAL meaning. I won't bother to ask what bad experience you've had with the religious folks/mindset... I can tell from ur extreme distaste that it was sizeable... to u. just ANOTHER man's opinion... Wow very perceptive Higgans!

GZ has spent his LAST night in jail. I'm not concerned about the divorce rate. I'm concerned about unequal treatment. Look at it this way......treating gays differently regarding marriage is no different than attacking GZ's character and his family while ignoring black-on-black violence. Why do you think BHO finally came out in favor of gay marriage? He did so not because of any deeply held moral or ethical principle, but because he finally realized that the vast majority of Americans want this unnecessary debate to be over and don't care one way or the other if gay people marry. He did it for votes. That tactic won't work in my case at least, but that's why he did it. It just happened to be the right thing for him to do, for a change.

George Zimmerman: Did he shoot Trayvon Martin in self defense? ABC7's Scott Thuman went inside the Sanford, Florida neighborhood where the shooting happened. He talks with Frank Taaffe, a friend of Zimmerman's, and a former neighborhood watch volunteer himself, who says it was self defense. Taafe shows us what he says eye witnesses told him happened that night in the Twin Lakes neighborhood. In this now infamous neighborhood, there's almost as much foot traffic as vehicle traffic. There's a cut-through frequented by kids, some following the very same footsteps as Trayvon Martin. But in an area hit by thieves, up to 11 times in 14 months, and where property value has plummeted, there was also plenty of suspicion. "He's parked here, the vehicles in this direction and he watches Trayvon come down here, stares at him out his window and according to George he circles around the car here and he heads back off in this direction here," Taaffe says. "Trayvon's walking in this direction, George is maintaining a visual on him all the time in contact with the dispatcher." The police dispatcher told Zimmerman to quit following Martin. But Taaffe says that when Zimmerman went back to his vehicle, he's the one who became a victim. Based on what he says witnesses told him, Taaffe points to the pavement and says, "Right here, this is it, this is where Trayvon punched George to the ground and started slamming his head right here on this concrete." Taaffe says he believes more witnesses will come forward and set the record straight. Friday night at 5, Scott Thuman takes a look at why folks here say the media got it so wrong, why some say the decision to arrest Zimmerman came all the way from Washington, and if it's a local shooting, why is the FBI involved? http://www.wjla.com/articles/2012/05/george-z...

Interesting. I don't have time to read all the comments, but majority of those that I did read were in support of Zimmerman. Seems like the Trayvon fan club only lives on this message board and at the rallies designed to get Jackson/Sharpton on TV and some cash for Martin/Fulton.

Taaffe is a nut. If Zimmerman returned to his Truck when requested by the cops what was he doing so far from his truck when he shot Martin? Don't forget Zimmerman was only 13 seconds from his truck when he said OK the the cops request not to follow.
