Graduating in the lowest 1% of my class is not something I would be proud of, even if the school had a fine name. You are wrong on the fact you need connections to get into the academy...I have know 3 people who went to WP and Annapolis no they weren't wealthy...they did it like most do wrote a letter to their congressman with a request and resume of there school history etc...and were admitted...if your brains aren't smart you won't get accepted..plain and simple....

Obama wouldn't even have been eligible for a posting to 'any' academy! and McCain would not have gotten in an Ivy League law like Obama did b/c he (McCain) graduated at the bottom of his undergrad class.

Get real... X for whatever reason it seems you have joined the camp of non thinking McCain for President no matter what dumb thing he did or does...and I am sad about that b/c it used to seem as if you were at least fair and a real thinker. As a military guy...if you were to look at this objectively, I think you would agree it smells fishy....McCain is an Admiral's son, he gets in the USNA and does horribly...the logical objective conclusion would be that it is likely he was probably not USNA material on his own merits (this further played out when he never made it beyond 0-6 despite his "hero" status in Vietnam and his very high ranking father and grandfather connections)....look at it objectively....if you had only these facts to go on....it looks like the man used his connections yet did not have the raw material that his father had. I am not implying that this means he would not make a good President anymore than I think it matters that Obama snorted coke in high school...I am only asking that you look at it more objectively.

Pretty good for a bottom dweller isn't it? the problem you have is that you think the academy is run like ivy league schools and you try to compare the two. That's only for starters! Lil John I don't think we have any evidence one way or the other as to whether McCain tried drugs....it is not likely he did it in high school as it was not as common certainly to "smoke dope" at the time McCain was in high school...it is a pretty commonly known fact that it was a problem though among military men in the late 60s and 70s during the Vietnam era ....so it is certainly possible that your McCain could have also tried drugs but who really cares? I am more concerned about what he has done as an adult (womanizer, left a crippled wife and family, bad temper, calling wife a trallop and c**t) than what he did as a kid in high school 50 years ago. Lil John can you honestly say you never did anything stupid in high school....while I never did drugs (I grew up in the 80s so they were more passe I think by the time I was in school) but I certainly made other dumb decisions as a 16 year old.

I am not saying that makes him the most intelligent person in the word...but yes likely smarter than McCain.

You people can argue all you want to about whether military service is required of a Presidential canidate, or not. I feel that it is not required. I would perfer a candidate who truly understands that the last thing you want to do is put our troops in harms way. A person who will work within whatever avenues are open to mediate any conflict. Any candidate that espouses a policy of "shoot first and ask questions later" will never get my vote. If you think this makes the U.S. look weak, you are wrong. The world is looking towards the U.S. as a stabilizing member of the community. Don't you think it's time we joined the community?
