Schilling Doesn't Back Down on Douglass Comments - NBC29 WVIR Charlottesville, VA News, Sports an...

Full story: NBC29 Charlottesville

Charlottesville radio show host Rob Schilling is shaking up controversy. Last week, he had some harsh words about 5th District Congressional candidate General John Douglass' military service on his show, "The Schilling Show". Now several groups are speaking out against Schilling who called Douglass an "empty uniform", a "chickenhawk", and a "dupe ...

Why would anyone pay any attention to this shill for the GOP. Aside from the fact that he would not know the truth if it slammed him in the face.

Sad that the Repuglicans not only have a deficit in qualified candidates, the deficit extends to the talking heads that drool out lies to match their parties Savior of 2012.

This overreaction is yet another example of liberal-progressive overreach. To anyone who actually LISTENED to Schilling's comments in context when he said them, it is obvious that he was not speaking of service in the military or veterans at large in a negative manner. He wasn't speaking of them at all - just Douglass specifically. His main point was a valid one: How can someone who rose so high in our military supposedly in defense of Constitutional principles, our representative Republic government (America is NOT a democracy), and the American tradition of self-reliance and giving true charity to those in need instead of handouts to those of greed, run on the very opposite of these? And while we should all respect military service, as does Schilling, it should never be taken as a shield from all criticism. Opportunist Douglass supporters are now overreaching to use THIS as a weapon against Robert Hurt. Puleeze.

Amanda,
Schilling apparently never means what it sounds like. Chicken-hawk is a term used to denigrate someone who avoided military service but later enthusiastically supports war or sends others into combat. Dick Cheney is the perfect example of a chicken-hawk. I guess when Schilling called two prominent business owners "useful idiots" this week he didn't really mean idiots in the context of his remarks. I guess when he called Mayor Huja, a "jack-booted thug", he didn't mean to imply that he was a Nazi, maybe just a Democrat. The point is that Schilling is a nasty little man who sits in his booth throwing bombs at people who he disagrees with. He is disrespectful and it is a shame that someone who has access as he does, choses to use it to fill up the airways with hateful words and recriminations.

Despite his service record, Douglass is indeed as Shilling describes. His days of military service are long behind him, and most General Officers are creatures of politics rather than soldiers.

As former military myself, I can indeed point my finger at this guy and say "Chickenhawk".

Oh, and hey, blabbering jarhead. When is Obama going to put congressional bills on the internet for 5 days before they're voted on for the public to see them?'member that promise? Of course not, that cover on your head is curring off the circulation. There are and have been more lies coming out of your saviors campaign past and present than any other person seeking the office of POTUS.

Back to Doglass, given his current position on so many things, why does he even bother to tout the stars? Seems like an uncomfortable fit with those he's rubbing elbows with in the Peoples Democratic party. Why, someone might shout "Baby Killer!" at him!

I'll bet there are pics of Jane Fonda on his nightstand and in the bathroom magazine rack.

Read up on your history, chap, and discover what the term "useful idiot" refers to.

I know the etiology of all of the terms I referred to in my letter. I know the business people he was referring to and they are very useful and as far from idiots as you can get. You over there in Waynesboro can point your finger all you want but a chicken hawk actively avoids military service while promoting it for others. By definition Mr. Douglass is not a chicken hawk. I am trying to figure out what branch of the military Schilling was in but there must be something wrong with Google.

Watching and Listening (while not paying attention), the Urban Dictionary is not your friend. What Douglass was, and what he has become in the 2 decades since his ETS can in fact be two different things.

He has a stellar career as a paper pusher. He did nothing to distinguish himself as a military man while in uniform. Heck, I know more buck Sergeants that have more ribbons on their dress uniform than the 9 the Brigadier is pimping on his official photo.

Interesting that he pimped for Barak Obeyme. I wonder where his campaign funds are coming from?

It's purina chickenhawk chow!

Then again, he's trying to look like a bird of prey, but of no actual substance. Maybe Douglass is actually a plastic owl for your garden.

Comparing Rob Schilling's behavior and appearance now to a year ago leads me to believe he must be using drugs. His incoherent statement quoted in the article confirms my observation.

This is, frankly, much ado about nothing.

Rob Schilling is who he is. I've referred to him as a right wing shock jock for years now, and it fits. You can add a lot more, but why bother? Mostly he craves the attention and sense of self-importance that accrues to him from a mix of people right of center, some more stable than others. He routinely ventures way over the top with his insults, and imagines that they mean much. This response of VETPAC merely feeds the man's ego.

Personally, I don't think his evaluation of John Douglass is that far off the mark, if ineloquently stated. I think that Amanda's earlier comments in this thread are spot on.

If Douglass wishes to get my vote, as an independent with a fiscal conservative bias, he has to do better than extol the talking points of the DNC. I could be wrong, but I think that the voting majority of the 5th District favors fiscal restraint, and a pro-jobs business climate, neither of which the Democrat Party line endorses.

Further, I value integrity. And, in that vein, I was turned off by the General's assertion that Hurt's absence from a recent debate forum was due to "catering to those people that gave [him] money in the election or ... calling them on the phone and asking for money" as if he knew that to be a fact and as if that were his business to set Hurt's priorities.

It might surprise the General to know that Hurt devotes considerable time to touching base with a large number of constituents, the majority of whom -- like myself -- donate no money to political campaigns. Unlike his predecessor, who held media choreographed dog and pony show events (aka Town Halls)to talk down to, not listen to, constituents, Congressman Hurt is accessible. You don't need Democrat voting credentials to get his or his staff's attention, or belong to a union. And unlike his predecessor, what you see is what you get. There are no surprises in how he votes, saying one thing, doing another. I like that.

This is a blatantly partisan attempt to tar a Representative with the words of a half-crazed, bigoted, egotistical, blowhard bully that might share some common ground, but otherwise have no linkage. Given how much garbage is spewed regularly by surrogates, talking heads, and zealots of both parties, I am now immune to them.

Rob Schilling does not speak for Representative Hurt, the GOP, Christians (right or left, evangelical or otherwise), a majority (silent or otherwise) of the people, or much of anything real. To that end, let Schilling apologize for himself, and let his listeners rebuke him.

The man shares a mic with all sorts of people, across the political spectrum. Attaching him to Hurt may be "politically savvy" --(only if it works)-- but it is nonetheless offensive --(we are not sheep).

In the meantime, Douglass needs to work on his stump speech, because if whining is all he's got, he aint got much.

Schilling is a right wing shock jock, they kicked him out of California because he is so far to the right. Not to mention I'm certain he's Jewish and doesn't share Christian values.

Jewish people value hard work, education, personal integrity, human dignity, their families and loved ones, political freedom, and the United States of America. To try to separate Jewish values from Christian values implies nothing more than bigotry on your part. We are all Americans who work hard, love our kids, pay taxes, and try to get by. Your ignorance is pathetic.

@ one issue voter- some Christians will help the downtrodden and some criticize any social program for the needy. Many jews donate a terrific amount of time, money and effort to help others, and you are sadly off base. Your complete ignorance of a rich culture is not relevant to any intelligent dialog.

Last time I checked this is America and we have freedom of speech...it would be a very boring world if we all had the same opinions and ideas...even if we don't like or agree with someone they have the right to say what they please...
