Wednesday’s meeting in Washington also resulted in a $400m US aid package for Gaza and the West Bank. The announcement came as Obama met Mahmoud Abbas in Washington to discuss the progress of proximity talks between Israel and the Palestinians, as well as the dire situation in Gaza.

Most US aid currently goes to the West Bank. Obama described the situation in Gaza as “unsustainable”, saying a better approach was needed and calling for a “new conceptual framework” for Israel’s blockade. A White House statement said the new funds “represent a down payment on the United States’ commitment to Palestinians in Gaza, who deserve a better life and expanded opportunities, and the chance to take part in building a viable, independent state of Palestine, together with those who live in the West Bank”.

Abbas welcomed the $400 million aid package, which will go for creating jobs, improving access to drinking water and the like, but he urged called for going further on the blockade.

Hamas seized control of the area in 2007. Masked Hamas fighter sat down at the desk of the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, and declared an end to the western-backed authority in the Gaza strip. In an imaginary telephone call to the US, a fighter from the Islamist movement’s armed wing, Izz el-Deen al-Qassam, joked:“Hello Condoleezza Rice. You have to deal with me now, there is no Abu Mazen anymore.”

Abbas has been the Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) since 11 November 2004 and became President of the Palestinian National Authority on 15 January 2005 on the Fatah ticket. Abbas was chosen as the President of the “State of Palestine” by the Palestine Liberation Organisation’s Central Council on 23 November 2008.

Abbas has stated there will be no talks with Israel until Israeli Jewish settlements are stopped; especially in East Jerusalem. Idiot Obama puppetted the same words even as Alan Dershowitz said it was always a Non-Starter and Obama was a fool for stating it.
