Another member of my family left her job at an adoption agency just before the economy crashed. Also a single mother, she has been looking for a way back to a full-time job ever since. She has been selling things on eBay to make ends meet. Friends and family, not government, have been there at the dire moments when she has asked them to be. Again, she, and they, wouldn’t have it any other way.

This is not to say that government doesn’t play a role in their lives. It does and it should. But it isn’t a dominant one, and certainly not an overwhelming factor in their daily existence.

The struggling women in my life all laughed when I asked them if contraception or abortion rights would be a major factor in their decision about this election. For them, and for most other women, the economy overwhelms everything else.

Another recent Pew Research Center survey found that voters, when thinking about whom to vote for in the fall, are most concerned about the economy (86 percent) and jobs (84 percent). Near the bottom of the list were some of the hot-button social issues.

Tiffany Dufu, who heads the White House Project, a nonpartisan group aimed at training young women for careers in politics and business, got a similar response when she informally polled young women in her organization.“The issues that have been defined as all women care about are way off — young women feel it has put them further in a box they don’t necessarily want to be in,” she told me.“Independence is what is so important to these women.”

I have always admired President Obama and I agree with him on some issues, like abortion rights. But the promise of his campaign four years ago has given way to something else — a failure to connect with tens of millions of Americans, many of them women, who feel economic opportunity is gone and are losing hope. In an effort to win them back, Mr. Obama is trying too hard. He’s employing a tone that can come across as grating and even condescending. He really ought to drop it. Most women don’t want to be patted on the head or treated as wards of the state. They simply want to be given a chance to succeed based on their talent and skills. To borrow a phrase from our president’s favorite president, Abraham Lincoln, they want “an open field and a fair chance.”

In the second decade of the 21st century, that isn’t asking too much.

GTFO Obama!

Sure is a good thing that Democrats are lily-white pure, free of all sin, and can cast the first stone.

Tell you what Skippy, how about you name one Democrat leader who is not tied to big money or never accepted any lobbying money. OH F**KING SNAP BIATCH!

I really want Bishop Romney to be president of the US in November, but I'm thinking America might do better if he became president of Bain Capital in China, instead. China's loss could be our gain. It's just an idea.

Hey it isn't all about the economy. We need to think about social issues and bigotry.

Check out these black bigots.

http://www.blinkx.com/watch-video/black-chris...

I hope we don't go down to that level of questioning during the debates.

America is better than that. We are all Mormons in spirit.

More like "Murdoch St. Journal Apologetics for Bain," I'd say.

Bain is neither better nor worse than most American big-time corporations, including these "holding companies" which buy, manipulate, and sell other companies - companies which actually do, or make, things. Holding companies are merely exploiters betting on future success or failure of their acquisitions, just part of the enormous Wall St. Casino which gambles the world's future every single day.

Bain, Microsoft, Facebook, Goldman Sachs...Democrat, Republican...Obama, Bush, Romney....it's all the same system. Greed, exploitation, power, violence.

You can argue which part of the machine is "better" if you want to; some of us have realized that the whole thing's out of control and heading for a cliff.

Christie drops the Hammer on "The Preener Obama"

In his remarks, Christie focused entirely on the general election, drawing a standing ovation for his biting remarks about Obama.

“He has sat in the Oval Office and cared more about posing and preening and making partisan politics the rule of the day in Washington D.C. than he’s cared about progress,” the New Jersey Republican, now in his third year in office, said of Obama.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, who invited Christie to Kentucky, called him “the perfect conservative messenger to inspire and energize Kentuckians” to help defeat Obama this fall.

Christie was touted last year as a potential presidential candidate, but he opted not to enter the race. He still is being mentioned as a potential running mate for Romney, as are others including Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.

Although Christie has said repeatedly that he loves his current job and does not have designs on being second-in-command, he has also said he would listen if Romney reached out to him.

Christie urged Kentucky voters to work hard to defeat Obama.

“Now listen,” he said,“this country’s problems are too serious, too serious, to spend another day with a bystander in the oval office.”

Bain invested $180,000,000 into the company

and 8 years later the company goes under due to a flood of cheap steel from China.

and Mitt Romney wasn't even at Bain..he had left 2 years prior to begin the salvage of the US Olympics.

Obama-spent more than all the president combined, even George Bush! and people are still out of work, and there are no jobs.

Mitt Romney is the just what America needs during this horrid economic period in America.

And more importantly Romney has demonstrated an ability to work with BOTH sides and do what is right for the people AND for businesses.

Obama fails America; refuses to discuss important issues:

Healthcare
Debt
Jobs

and debases the people of America by using movie stars and tv shows to promote his agenda.

Use you bully pulpit, not Hollywood-the plastic people-those who have several mansions, maids, gardners, chefs, personal assistants, stylists, use private jets for travel-these are not the everyday people of America.

And that's important because we never "shipped jobs overseas" before Obama came into office, right?

LOL

More proof you're an idiot. Presidential "czars" don't "ship jobs" anywhere.

Nice of you to try to pretend that was your post and your family, and to use a 'liberal' source to launch another pathetic attack. Not to particular about your sources, are you? LOL

Daily Horoscope for May 18

Cancer

Love could catch you by surprise today. You might be strongly attracted to someone who isn't your usual type at all but who makes your knees go weak all the same, or you could get caught up in an illicit relationship that's exciting because it has to be kept a secret. If you're already involved with someone they'll need plenty of freedom and won't appreciate feeling emotionally tied down. You need to let them off the leash for a short while!
