Why is there such emphasis on her 5th child? She had a child who has down's syndrome. So?

Just because she's a woman doesn't mean Clinton supporters will vote for McCain. That doesn't give women much credit. People will still vote for the person whose overall policy stands most closely match their own regardless of gender.

This woman has a 5 month old child with Down's Syndrome and four other children. Her only "experience" is Alaska politics--she is another "oil" proponent/lobbyist.

My biggest concern, since we really know NOTHING about this woman, is does she really have TIME to be a working Vice President, and God forbid, what happens when McCain has a heartache or stroke--how does her experience match up to Obama/Biden?

If McCain/Palin get elected in November, the racial politics of this country will become real obvious--expect Iran, Russia and Pakistan to move in on us. Mark my words.

Allegedly, it has to do with her "pro-life" stance. She knew about the baby's condition during pregnancy and didn't abort it. It's not as if she's the first.

Hot or not, until December of 2006 (less than two years ago!) this lady was mayor of a community of 6500 in nowheresville Alaska & a self-styled hockey mom & commercial fisherwoman. She received a bachelor's degree in communications 21 years ago. Oh wow. Face it folks, she's a good looking Carol Molnau. McCain's a heart beat away from death & he picks someone with so little experience? This is absolutely an outrage. I'd like to know who is taking care of her 4 month old baby with Down Syndrome? With so many talented & experienced people to choose from, I am offended at McCain's choice to placate women voters & the prolife community. Obamma's now got my vote for sure.

I think Romney would have been a better choice for VP. Politically, he probably felt he had to choose a woman, but he chose one whose name nobody knows outside of Alaska, who's not even halfway through her first term as governor, who doesn't have any real accomplishments other than being elected, and who has absolutely no national or foreign policy experience. And it's true that she's currently under investigation for abusing her office (whether or not it has merit). How could she be anything but a figurehead in that office, with such little experience?

Given his age, people are going to want someone in the VP role who can step in and be president; Obama has that in Biden, but McCain definitely doesn't have that in Palin. If he felt he needed to choose a woman, there are other, more experienced women he could have chosen who I think would have helped him more.

Forget the stroke, she's just one cancer cell away from the Oval office.

I'd be horrified if anyone, anywhere, any race or political preference aborted a child just because it had down's syndrome. I've been against this since I found out people can learn their unborn child has down's syndrome and somehow has the moral right to abort it for that reason (I imagine one learns of this at a late stage of gestation?)

Don't know much about her, and though I'm a conservative, on the surface it looks like a ploy to get the female voters. Also, given McCain's age, I'm not sure many of his supporters are crazy about this person being qualified to step in if necessary.

Looking at CNN, one would have thought Obama had picked the Lord as his running mate, and McCain's pick is depicted somewhat as, "so, anyway, here's his pick...". The media no longer tries to hide it's bias.

He would have been better off picking
Minnie Mouse, she does not have enough experience, nobody knows her,
and women will not vote for her just because she is a woman. I personally do not have a lot of
respect for a woman who chooses this demanding of
a job when she has a 6 month old baby with
serious health issues.(plus 4 other children)
Long ways from Alaska to Washington!
