And, forests do not need to be "thinned". Trees have been around A LOT longer than chainsaws. Most of the forests evolved (yes, evolution is a real thing) to deal with periodic forest fires.
In fact, there are several species of tree which can not reproduce WITHOUT forest fires.

Previously a forest service type would paint mark trees to be thinned out plus deadwood could be harvested.
Since the LOONIES stopped it from happening many jobs were lost and the built up brush and crowded trees cause major foreet fires.
Not only that but the fires consume many wild life species plus raise havoc on private property nearby.
As to controlled forest fires ...yes ... but not the uncontrolled havoc the Tree Huggers have created.
The Native American tribes were using a system of clearing brush , tree harvesting and controlled burnouts long before the Euros came here.
