Not sure if CNN could shed that much more light on "Being Black in America". What is it? It is what it is. I mean, should white people all of a sudden give a d@mn what it's like? Hell, things are hard for them too. Maybe if white & black people can realize that we're all in AMERICA together & regardless, we'll have to solve AMERICA'S problems together chit would be better. I'll tell you this. Being a part of topix for a bit & being black, I see that being black is harder than I thought... as posters on this forum (and others) have demonstrated, having a anonymous identity behind a computer screen makes people more able to be honest. Thus, racism is pretty healthy & kicking in our great nation. I sometimes wonder how some of my white friends, acquaintances, or co-workers really feel about me. But... I'm a big believer in personal accountablity & I feel like when it comes to my own personal conduct; I've performed in a satisfactory way. I've found that Being Black in America includes, as a black person, not giving a damn about others' opinions. That makes it a hell of a lot easier.

For this very reason we should not accept the defeatist mentality of american materialism as self worth.
Many "educated" blacks do.
1. We should stop calling ourselves Black because we are brown and not the antithesis of all things white.
2. We must stop allowing the causasian controlled media to dictate what we wear, what we do, and how we perceive ourselves as a culture.
3. We need to take ownership of a country that disenfranchises us as a people fromt the highest levels of government.( This is my country and I own it too)
4. We must stop police brutality by seeing these troubled dark skinned young men as brothers and sons and defending them accordingly.
I could go on but these are the most important steps to be taken and sadly we will never go in this direction because it is too much work and we will be in for the fight of our lives as a culture.
Remember the Black Panther Party was not destroyed until it began breakfast clubs for poor children and working towards building schools for the betterment of the dark skinned community.
This the **** establishment will always fight.
So with that said what do you think the benz, lexus, mercedes brothers will sacrifice to see us uplifted as a whole....
nothing.
I think a HUGE part of the problem is that the black community HAS been treating the thug minority within the black community as "troubled dark skinned brothers" instead of as the predatory, anti-black thugs they are, who commit more violence against the black community every day than the police or even the KKK do in 20 years.

Now, I do believe the those who are repentant over their crimes and are honestly trying to turn their lives around should get the support of the black community and society in general.

But, those who have dedicated their lives to drugs, theft and violence need to be seen as and treated as what they are the NUMBER ONE ENEMY of the black community. The black KKK as black (or brown if you prefer) columnist Jason Whitlock has so aptly labled them.

As for the Black Panther Party, they were a bunch of opportunistic, hate filled, violent, murdering thugs, who are largely responsible for the deplorable condition of the black community today. As John McWhorter pointed out, the anti-education, "stick your middle finger at the world" attitude that pervades the hip-hop prison culture has its roots in the BPP.

Seriously.... gotta question.
Did you read the paperwork before signing? If your signature is on it; & that holds in court; I'm not sure that has anything to do with whether the loan-officer was black or not. Hell, be glad you go some credit since you're white. A lot of black folks just get denied.

argh! we will never move ahead in this country if we keep focusing on the color of our skin. It doesn't matter anymore, those days are over. What are you saying? That Doctor King's efforts were in vain? Lets move on, slavery is long gone, discrimination againts skin color SHOULD be gone, dislike the personality not the person of color. We are all American's, lets pull together and stop the segregation (does anybody see a repeat in history here?). Lets move forward and not let history repeat itself with the separation of races! america... the land of the FREE

Amen. Too much blood has been shed for us to be bickering over such things. Our country is free and many people of many backgrounds died to preserve that.

The last paragraph, about instructions black parents give their kids for dealing with the police, is very telling.

It pretends as though police are just itching for any excuse to abuse, injure, arrest, or kill black youth. That's just ridiculous.

And if the black parents would bring their kids up to obey the law like anyone else, and to respect authority, and to politely comply with police officers' requests, they would not need to be worried that they have to "cower, cower," or risk losing their lives when they get pulled over.

But Les Payne, the article's author, is well-known to be a race-baiting racist.

Like I told Tap: Tell that to your own kids, more and more of them are crossing over, your too busy trying to criticize and put down other people when your own are following suit. They don't seem to find anything wrong with it. They find something wrong with the way they are being raised by there supposedly "decent" parents. But I'm sure you will have some excuse or "justification" for that.
Pay more attention to what's going on with your own kids and stop worrying about the kids from the other side of the tracks, they are making progress, weather you approve or agree with it or not....get over it.......
tell what to my own kids? the joke about the cannon? my kids are 5 and 2. i don't think they'll get it. gotta go, sis. it's me and the kids today and its raining. have to find nuturing things to do with them all day. daughter goes to gymnastics at 9:00 and then we'll come home and read about a million books. throw in 2 million hugs then it's art time....etc...you know how it is.

Damn, I thought I posted that. But this CNN special should follow up with being white in America, I am black and all but I can tell you how the white in america will go: they will interview the rural white family struggling, the trailer park family that is satisfied with their life, and try to interview the wealthy portion but they won't be able to because the wealthy portion doesn't care about black or white just green, which is the only color we should care about. This special reminded me of all those Iraq movies and series like "Over There" that was on FX, I was in Iraq and I did take a peek at that show but just like being black it doesn't interest me one bit of seeing a series about the war or being black because I lived it or am living it and I know how I feel. This just one of those preaching to the choir pity parties and I am not coming to that party.

I know this sounds corny but I mean this...it should be manditory for schools to have children to read the U.S. Constitution...it is amazing how that document covers everything that is relivant to today kinda like the bible even though it was written over 300yrs ago. And if everyone took a understanding to that document and took it to heart I seriously believe this country would be more socially intergrated which leads to a higher level of patriotism (which is a word people don't understand).

What black people as a whole need to realize that there is racism and prejudice but you can't let that hold you back. Just because it may be harder in most cases to be black, you can't just give up because it hard.
We don't. Our culture will be fine because we will always have a toughness about us.

We can run faster that they can.
Men are not created equal but we can treat each other equally.

We need to let them know this always.
You know as well as I do if you are in a high paying job surrounded by caucasians you worked harder to get there unless we are talking athletics.(and in many cases we had to go through a lot of bull to level that playing field as well)

I have personally taken these young men whom you say would eat me alive and seen them graduate from colleges.

They need to see strong dark skinned men who actually care. What we need is a collective of educated "brothers" who care more about the young struggling brothers that pussy and cars.

But as I say if you read the entire post... no need for white people to worry.. we will never get to this point in our mental collective.

1. have you had the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation to understand one of this murdering thugs who are dedicated to this life of say around 12 years old?(probably not)

2. Have you ever read the Black Panther Party 10 point plan?(I doubt that you are even aware that they had one)

After you have done these two things reengage me in conversation.
