He said that the nation is on the brink of a serious recession and this is no time for politics. McCain has been in the Senate 25 years. He knows precisely what will happen if he barges into the office of Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), chairman of the Senate banking committee and announces: "OK, Outta here, I'm taking over now. Dodd's reaction would not be printable on a family Website like this one and McCain would be instantly and unceremoniously shown the door. There are two people responsible for writing banking bills: Dodd and his House counterpart Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA). If Dodd wants input from the Republicans on this, he will ask the ranking member on his committee, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL). McCain and Obama play no role and McCain knows that very well. So why did McCain propose cancelling the debate? In a word: politics. By flying into D.C. as the savior he might appear as a man of action to people who don't know how the Senate works. The reality of course, is that Obama and McCain's appearance in Dodd's office would instantly turn the entire event into a political circus. If left alone, Dodd can come up with a bill a lot faster than with McCain, Obama, and the entire national press corps in the room "helping." A second point is that by pulling all his TV ads, he saves money, something Obama has more of. McCain may need that money at the end of October, so a penny not spent now is a penny available in October.

As the dailies report that Hillary used her own money and Obama should replace it. Chelsea, the Clinton in waiting is positioned to make a mint.

John McCain has skipped more votes during this session than any member of the Senate except for Tim Johnson, who had major brain surgery. He hasn't cast a single vote in five months, since April 9. NOW he just has to go vote his ONE vote?! He is not even on the committee! Pleez!
And a reminder: President Bush was able to debate John Kerry while he was president. What, he can't do what Bush (of all people) was capable of doing?!?If McCain can't multi-task he IS NOT FIT TO BE POTUS!
Lastly, The idea of uniting the campaigns to find a bipartisan solution to the Wall Street crisis wasn't even McCain's idea. It was OBAMA's!!
Your boy's got nothin' so now he is running like a scared lil' republican rabbit.
I'm willing to bet that if he doesn't show Friday he will lose votes. Hell, he will lose votes even if he shows! LOL

The bailout was handled by the administration with financial Iraq war tactics.
His speech was designed to scare Americans into quickly adopting a 700 plus Billion dollar bailout with no strings attached.
Fortunately we have a Democratic Congress as well as a number of Republican Representatives that aren't going to be fooled again by the cheap scare tactics of a lame duck administration.

Bush's problems pushing this entitement bill for his rich friends through is not with the dems. It is the republicans that are showing him their middle fingers. He sent Cheney to congress to try to use some clout and they spanked him and sent him home with those middle fingers flying. So maybe McCain can go in and try to be W's boy again. But since nobody respects McCain anyway, he probably won't be able to do a darn thing. After all, McCain didn't even have the backbone to pick his own VP. How is he going to have the stones to face down the entire republican congress just to bail out who is on the lame duck express anyway.

Here-Here Think Again. Obama is on the payroll, Both should know how this issue is created, come inauguration the winner will need to understand it, approve of it, and work with. There will be no voting present. And, the pocket veto should be grounds to begin impeachment.

Obama grant being probed $100,000 DEAL | State to charity: What happened to garden money, other cash? September 25, 2008 A $100,000 state grant for a botanic garden in Englewood that then-state Sen. Barack Obama awarded in 2001 to a group headed by a onetime campaign volunteer is now under investigation by the Illinois attorney general amid new questions, prompted by Chicago Sun-Times reports, about whether the money might have been misspent. The garden was never built. And now state records obtained by the Sun-Times show $65,000 of the grant money went to the wife of Kenny B. Smith, the Obama 2000 congressional campaign volunteer who heads the Chicago Better Housing Association. http://www.suntimes.com/news/watchdogs/118404... Smith wrote another $20,000 in grant-related checks to K.D. Contractors, a construction company that his wife, Karen D. Smith, created five months after work on the garden was supposed to have begun, records show. K.D. is no longer in business. Attorney General Lisa Madigan -- a Democrat who is supporting Obama's presidential bid -- is investigating "whether this charitable organization properly used its charitable assets, including the state funds it received," Cara Smith, Madigan's deputy chief of staff, said Wednesday. In addition to the 2001 grant that Obama directed to the housing association as a "member initiative," the not-for-profit group got a separate $20,000 state grant in 2006. Madigan's office has notified Obama's presidential campaign of the probe, which was launched this week. But Obama's actions in awarding the money are not a focus of the investigation, Smith said.

What would be so wrong with McCain & Obama taking care of two things at the same time as I suggested??? Or is it that McCain just isn't capable of multi-tasking? Can't handle being the president then that's for sure! Even George Will, ultra conservative, has doubts about McCain's age and leadership ability. GEORGE WILL - "I suppose the McCain campaign's hope is that when there's a big crisis people will go for age and experience...the question is who in this crisis looked more Presidential, calm and unflustered.....it wasn't John McCain...who, as usual, substituting vehemance for coherance, said "Let's fire somebody!" And he picked one of the most experienced and conservative people in the Administration, Chris Cox, and for no apparent reason, at least non that he vouched safe....he said fire Chris Cox at the SEC. It was un-Presidential behavior by a Presidential aspirant." SAM DONALDSON - "Well.... it was two days after he said the fundamentals of the economy were strong.....I mean his talking points have gotten all mixed up. And I think the question of age is back on the table." Your boy is running scared! Please stop making me laugh. There's a $700 Billion dollar problem and you're more concerned about a stinking political debate? Are you a moron? These 2 need to get off the campaign trail and back to Washington to wake up their sleeping colleagues for a few days or week until this gets resolved in a way that doesn't sock the Taxpayer with more debt!

Uhhh, if you haven't noticed, the deal is done. Gee, McCain REALLY helped the process...lol. McCain made his announcement yesterday morning...and instead of "immediately returning to Washington" like he said he would, he lied...and lied again...to you, me, Letterman, Couric, Obama, Washington DC...hell, anyone who was in earshot. Did he race back to capital hill? No...he had to pander to Couric after lying to Letterman. THEN did he race back to Washington? No...he first had to make an appearance this morning to pontificate to the Clinton Global Alliance. And he can't make time for a two-hour debate that the nation wants to see? Funny...George Bush made his debate with John Kerry, and he was the President!!! Spin it all you want...it's over for McCain/Palin.
