While the Church leadership counsel's Church members to avoid debt and stay away from risky investments, it seems to be living by a completely different set of rules, with sacred money that originated with members' tithes and offerings. Mitt Romney gave the Church a few million dollars, the Church needs to disclose exactly what they gave Mitt Romney in return. It would be interesting to know how much money their poster child's investments cost Mormon Inc.
Perhaps the billions of dollars in over-runs on the Mormon Inc. Mall being built in downtown Salt Lake City are being used to cover up some of these losses. Only an audit from an outside source, say the FBI's White Collar Crimes Division, would tell the whole story.
Don't hold your breath.
Mormons that think their Church is solvent, and able to meet increasing demands on its Welfare Programs, will soon find out what the consequences of their blind obedience really means. Everyone eventually comes up with a rational thought.

This morning in an interview clip on ABC's "This Week", Dick Chaney stated that it was a big mistake for John McCain to have picked an unqualified Sarah Palin for his VP choice. Duh!

As an aside, Chaney looks absolutely terrific after his heart transplant. The miracles of modern medicine are boundless unless someone like a President Romney reinstates the ban on stem cell research. Yes, we are screwed on so many levels.

From February, 2010:
Israel – financial insecurity
Money Laundering Bulletin
Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Israel was quick to come out and identify itself with the ensuing US-led 'war on terror'. This was not surprising, given the Arab-Israeli conflict and the attacks Israel has sustained from militant Palestinian groups. But while the US ramped up its counter terrorist financing and anti-money laundering legislation through the Patriot Act, Israel has been rather lackadaisical in applying international regulations and domestic compliance in the financial sector, despite MONEYVAL saying the threat of terrorist financing and money laundering is 'considerable', writes Paul Cochrane.
In 2000, Israel enacted a Prohibition of Money Laundering Law (PMLL), but for being uncooperative in the fight against money laundering the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) placed Israel on its blacklist. By 2002, Israel was off the blacklist and on the FATF monitoring list until 2003.
“For many years, Israel was the last Western country which wasn’t fighting money laundering,” Hebrew University law academic Guy Harpaz was quoted as saying in Forward magazine in July, 2009.
The PMLL enacted the establishment of the Israeli Money Laundering Prohibition Authority (IMPA) under the Ministry of Justice as the country’s financial intelligence unit (FIU) in 2002.
In the years since, Israel has amended, updated and added to regulations on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter terrorist financing (CTF). In 2004, the prohibition on terrorist financing (TF) law 5765-2004 was adopted and went into effect in August 2005. Under Israeli law, the Israel Security Agency (more commonly known as Shin Bet) is responsible for investigating TF offenses, while the Israel Tax Authority handles investigations originating in customs offenses. To ensure cooperation between Israeli government bodies, a ruling was put in place to transmit information between the IMPA, the Israeli National Police and Shin Bet.
But despite tighter regulations, a 2008 report by MONEYVAL stated that the overall threat of ML and TF in Israel is “considerable,” with more than USD$5 billion in illicit proceeds generated through illegal drugs, gambling, extortion, fraud, and human trafficking. The report estimated illegal gambling profits at over USD$2 billion per year and domestic narcotics profits at USD$1.5 billion per year. Political corruption is a further area of concern, with several high profile cases probed over the years. Indeed, Israel has not ratified the UN Convention against Corruption and last year, Israel ranked 33 out of 180 countries in the Transparency International (TI) 2008 Corruption Perceptions Index, a lower ranking than 2007's 30 out of 180 countries. Meanwhile, 82 percent of Israelis believe the public sector to be extremely corrupt, according to a study by TI published June, 2009.
An eye opener indeed. I was a little surprised by Israel's corruption ranking. I guess I just didn't equate egotistic greediness with corruption. What was I thinking?

A whole lot of institutional investors took the hit:
"Some of these institutions include Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Notre Dame, the Journal said.
All these institutions have some money invested in Bain's money-losing credit funds, two of which include Sankaty's Special Situations and Prospect Harbor..." (Ibid)
Which brings us back to Mormon Inc., Beneficial Life Insurance and Deseret Management:
"Beneficial has seen its investment portfolio decline significantly due to its exposure to mortgage-backed and other structured securities, resulting in losses of $600 million over the past two years. Deseret Management had to infuse $594 million into Beneficial to make up the deficit."
Just think...the man responsible for those loses wants to take over the reins of the United States. What are people thinking?

Heh. It just gets more and more daunting the more you dig. I have to take a break. I'm nauseated. Whenever you start to dig deeper under what is roiling the surface of politics (which basically means how the world runs), you find things that shock, appall and sicken you (even when you think you've seen it all) to the extent that you just give up all hope.
I understand why some people just retreat from it. There's only so much you can stand.
Nauseating fear. However, it is providing an endless source of conversation here in the CCU where I was beginning to get a little bored. Even the Olympic games have ceased to be a distraction. What I really need here is a recliner!

I completely understand now why they're screaming so loud about Obama being a "socialist/marxist" and all the other inane epithets they parrot from Fuxnews, It must frustrate the neocons (and their front-line neotard, unsophisticated shock troops) no end that their final assault on the Constitution and whatever is left of the country has been interrupted, even minimally, for at least 4 years.
Obama has been very little help in muzzling and restraining the worst of them, but in his defense, he has been hamstrung at every turn by the most openly corrupt and cynical congress in memory.
I worry a little bit that the average voter is incapable of comprehending the mechanism with which Congress has tied Obama's hands. They have been the stumbling block to economic recovery. I do believe that the election lies in the hands of the independent voters who tend to pay more attention to facts than those who vote the party ticket and are most often anti-war and pro-two state solution. IMO, Obama really needs to focus on Romney's pro-war stance and his personal relationship with Nutandyahoo.

OMG. Willard Romney is calling Jerusalem “the capital of Israel.” Could he be any more clueless as to the ramifications of such a statement? There is a very good reason the United States (Clinton, Bush, Obama) have withheld implementation of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 and recognize it as a national security risk.

Moving our Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem would be an invitation to war that would have a devastating effect on the United States. I can't think of a better adjective than "Idiot" when describing Romney on international matters.

Just for laughs.

"Eighty Years" (author unknown)

On the first day, God created the dog and said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years."

The dog said, "That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?"

So God saw it was good

On the second day, God created the monkey and said, "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span."

The monkey said, "Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the dog did?"

And God, again saw it was good.

On the third day, God created the cow and said, "You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years."

The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?"

And God agreed it was good.

On the fourth day, God created humans and said, "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years."

But the human said, "Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?"

"Okay," said God. "You asked for it.."

So that is why for our first twenty years, we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years, we slave in the sun to support our family.. For the next ten years, we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last ten years, we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Life has now been explained to you.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information. I'm doing it as a public service. If you are looking for me I will be on the front porch...

Every four years or so I realize how much I like beach volleyball, and field hockey to some extent. Even after many years of diligent study I still find elements of life on the planet which stimulate my interests endlessly fascinating. For instance, the the proportion of female athletes with rock-hard nipples is about on par with those made of softer stuff. Competition being what it is, I see no reason to avoid these glaring truths even if they occur in England.

Is there anything more attractive than good German girls running around a wet field in Egyptian cotton T-shirts? Why are American nipples less obvious than German ones? Diet? Beer?

There's something magnetic about a gaggle of teenaged girls running around half-naked with sticks with big mushroom shaped heads on them... it's sort of like the internet. Excuse me, I have to go back and watch Beach Volleyball on TIVO just to make sure my balls were totally over the line. Who invented the rule where the girls, um, athletes, don't have to wear bikinis when they serve? I'll have his (and it's surely a he) head.
