Gingrich Says Obama Wants European-Level Gas Prices

Posted on March 5, 2012by Jason Bradley

I’m capping greenhouse gasses, coal power plants, natural gas…you name it…whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retro-fit their operations.~ President Obama, 2008.

Gingrich said

“This president and his secretary of anti-energy, Dr. Chu, have as a goal getting us to pay European-level prices of $8 or $9. Dr. Chu was clear about that before he became secretary. He wants us to get to be a European-level price structure of $8 or $9 a gallon,” said Gingrich.“He said this week, in testifying in the House, he has ‘no intention of trying to lower the price of oil or the price of gasoline.’ The American people on the other hand would much rather pay $2.50 and be independent of Saudi Arabia than be where we are today.”

Before there are those who will say this is ridiculous, consider what Dr. Chu revealed in his own words.

President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu uttered the kind of Washington gaffe that consists of telling the truth when inconvenient. According to Politico, Chu admitted to a House committee that the administration is not interested in lowering gas prices. Chu, along with the Obama administration, regards the spike in gas prices as a feature rather than a bug. High gas prices provide an incentive for alternate energy technology, a priority for the White House, and a decrease in reliance on oil for energy.

Just to add here: Greece pays nearly 9 US dollars per gallon, France, over $8, Germany, over $8, and the UK, over $8.

That's how most intelligent governments work, USER PAYS! If a government is worth its salt, then all tax collected on fuel is spent on new highways or road maint. What is the point of collecting tax to pay for roads if you don't own a car, you sure would be bitching then. Those highways and bridges just don't magically appear just because Chevron increased it's profits. They get the tax breaks remember.

Yeah, I would definitely go for a candidate bankrolled by a casino owner (foreign casinos) rather than one bankrolled by workers.

I can’t help but criticize some of you because the way they came across to me was way out of line in their backwardness, from the questions they posed to me, to their poor views so showing (basically they are so narrow-minded in their own corners of world as how things are to them.) Since the universe is infinite, do they know how big is the world and how many things are there (that they don‘t know)? Just on English alone (even some of them keep talking about it), words they are not accustomed to call, know and hear before, they would jump to conclusion about whatsoever in their little world. If they hear some slang words, they probably think if those are English as their people have never presented such terms or words to them before. In essence, curiosity and trying to learn is good, but the attitude of some of you is so bad, especially they were in the position to ask people (like ASKING me for example) questions, or discuss certain subjects. Not that they don’t have an open- mind or objectively curiosity standpoint to try to be constructive to themselves in getting to know and find out the truth, their way of conduct in the little world they live in, has been going over the threshold of unacceptability.

Chinese Communists are not your people’s benefits as they also try to learn, get training and steal, and spy and so on. Those people( as we the free world people) are your benefits, because only through cultivating exchange and discussions, so mush you don‘t know, can be ironed out in whatever endeavor, to go forward for the constructive benefits. There is a point in time at certain stage when things are going too far of getting to talking about useless things, the over-stupidity without having the proper attitude and the basic pre-requisite of logical reasoning have been found and shown on some of your traits, coming from living in your narrow world .

The Causes and Effects of High Gas Prices

----------

Note: There is now a companion page about The Causes and Effects of High Oil Prices, which deals with the crude oil supply, the worldwide market, the controversy over offshore drilling, refinery capacity and many other issues.

Much has been said about high gas prices recently, starting in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the retail price of gasoline spiked for a few weeks. But the price of gas has a number of causes and effects that aren't discussed in any great detail on TV news shows.(Other than sports and weather, nothing is discussed in much detail on television, but that's another story.) This page represents an attempt to fill in the gaps.

Radical environmentalists and their friends in the news media would have you believe that high gas prices are primarily the result of corporate greed, poor planning, and insufficient government intervention. In reality, this is a matter of supply and demand, and it is not the proper role of government to intervene.

The major causes of high gas prices include the increased demand for oil in places like China and India, high gasoline taxes, civil unrest in Venezuela, war in the Middle East, political instability in Nigeria, and too few refineries in the U.S. Demand is kept high (in part) by people who prefer the comfort and safety of large trucks and SUV's regardless of their lower fuel economy. If they can afford the gas, I support their freedom to choose any vehicle they want. But a huge part of the supply problem is due to environmental regulations (and environmentalists' opposition to new refineries), and political opposition to oil exploration in the Gulf of Mexico and in parts of Alaska.

Gasoline supplies are impeded by regulations that require specialized blends of gasoline for certain parts of the country. Gasoline used to be essentially the same nationwide, but there are many different "flavors" of gas sold now, in some cases for specific counties. Generally this seems to cause the price of gas to be higher in and around big cities.

Another factor that drives up the cost is the political opposition to offshore drilling.

One reason for the surge in gas prices during the early summer months is the number of people who drive to their vacation destinations. More and more people are driving, I think, because of what they would have to go through at the airport, just to travel 400 miles.

Some people think the oil companies make astronomical profits. But if you really believe that's true, you should keep quiet and buy stock in ExxonMobil! I challenge you to buy a barrel of crude oil and see if you can make gasoline out of it for less than $10.00 a gallon.

If you find gas prices unaffordable, and if you don't mind squeezing into a crowded bus or train with a bunch of smelly and nasty strangers, you might consider mass transit as an alternative.

Gasoline is a bargain at $4.00 a gallon. Get used to it. Driving a car is a luxury for which we should be grateful. And don't get your hopes up about Ethanol, because that's not the perfect solution either.

When you're finished here, check out the Oil and Gas section of the Environmental False Alarms page.

First of all, the price of everything is going up. There's a subsection about generalized inflation at the bottom of the page.

In addition to groceries, cigarettes, diapers and gold, the price of gasoline is constantly going up.

Note: The newest information is at the top of this subsection. The farther down you go, the older it gets, in other words. But that might be of some interest to you if you're looking into the recent history of high gas prices.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch)— Gasoline prices in the U.S. rose on Sunday for a ninth straight day, continuing a climb back toward the record highs set in 2008.
The national average price for a gallon of gas rose to $3.838, according to motorist group AAA’s fuel gauge report.
That’s up from about $3.53 a month ago.
Average prices are above or near $4 a gallon in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, New York, and six other states, according to CNN.

Obama and Sec Chu Want to Raise Gas to $8.00 Per Gallon
The Mainstream media does not want you to know the truth about Barack Obama, their protected candidate up for re-election in 2012. If the true motives hidden behind Barack Obama’s policies and actions were exposed, America would be in a civil war. Obama’s Energy Secretary Steven Chu even openly suggested that higher gasoline prices would solve America’s energy problems forcing people to buy over-priced, inefficient alternative energy cars.

“The Energy Department is not working to lower gasoline prices directly, Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday after a Republican lawmaker scolded him for his now-infamous 2008 comment that gas prices in the U.S. should be as high as in Europe.

Obama wants to turn America into Europe. When gas prices hit $3 a gallon many people began immediately cutting back on their spending. Now that gas prices are $4.00 a gallon, and fast approaching $6.00 a gallon, Americans are feeling pinched like never before. Obama’s strategy is going to bankrupt America from every imaginable angle from Obama care to his failed energy policies and bankrupt, non-working green energy initiatives.

Chu admitted to the House appropriators during a hearing on DOE’s budget that the Department of Energy would prefer to work to promote alternative enery such as biofuels and electric vehicles. But experts know we are far from making these alternatives cost effective

“But Americans need relief now”, Rep. Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.) said —“not high gasoline prices that could eventually push them to alternatives.”

“I can’t look at motivations. I have to look at results. And under this administration the price of gasoline has doubled,” Nunnelee told Chu.

“The people of north Mississippi can’t be here, so I have to be here and be their voice for them,” Nunnelee added.“I have to tell you that $8 a gallon gasoline makes them afraid. It’s a cruel tax on the people of north Mississippi as they try to go back and forth to work. It’s a cloud hanging over economic development and job creation.”

Obama will not grant drilling in the Gulf. Some conspiracy theorists claim that Democrat operatives under Obama’s direction orchestrated the destruction of the BP oil drilling platform in 2010 in order to catapult Obama’s energy mandates, oils banning, green energy initiatives which have all proven catastrophic to the welfare of the United States.

Obama and the Democrats are hell bent on punishing American success with a forced move towards cars are NOT reliable nor efficient. The truth about electric cars is that in the long run, they will actually cost Americans MORE money! They dont run in the cold weather, they go only short distances, they take 24 hours to fully charge, are dangerous, and above all are 2-3 times the cost of a gasoline engine car. None of it makes sense. Yet Americans are falling for the Obama energy destruction plan. Many accuse Obama of not standing up to Iran to further strain America’s reliance on oil.
