When will it open and to what capacity? What will cause the rise? Will it be a temporary rise? What is to happen from 2030 to 2050? Will this happen to other rivers?

Your whole presence here is about predictions. Either you attack scientific predictions or make your own nonscientific prediction like this one.

Yet you post, "I'm not one for predictions, but I will predict that."

Waiting for your reply!

Steve, sometimes you have an incredible grasp of the obvious!

I suppose you thought that I was saying goodbye to the Mighty Mississip. Hardly. It may go 10 feet above flood stage its whole length next year. It was a hell of a street-washer last year. The Mississippi will probably flow for many, many more centuries. That are not the point of today's lecture.

It's when we depend on this liquid highway for commerce and when it becomes more and more undependable and unpredictable that the word adaption becomes laughable.

You and others who've been dragged kicking and screaming into the realization that AGW is real are now falling back to the next stage in the denial playbook: we can adapt.

Yes, we can. But that adaptation is going to take time, money, resources, and (here comes a dirty word) government control.

Probably Occupy Wall Street is on the mark. Greed, the too powerful financials, the influence of money on our political system is what is causing so much of the grief for many Americans. However, understanding the problems and bringing that message home are two different things. TheTea Party anti-tax mantra is easy to convey, even if it is too simplistic. The message they bring is to revert to a simpler time. Only if we could! Unfortunately comples problems are rarely solved with simplistic solutins. However, this resonates with many who do not understand that the world is changing.
Under the present poisoned politics and the recession that nearly was a depression, global warming does not resonate. That does not mean that these matters are not important, it means that we need to get our house in order before we attack partisan contrived controversial problems.
Climate change was a 26 year old death threat from heartless liberals who acted more like fear mongering neocons than the tea party times ten. Liberals condemned billions of helpless children to the greenhouse gas ovens.
Is climate change a war crime? Yes and it is the crime of a modern day civilization to challenge the powers of the cosmos with Human sacrifice and taxes. It was pure insanity and let's all just blame it on the tea party? That's what libs are good at are they not, finger pointing a blaming but never standing for anything.

Nobody has said anything about summer being 'new'. Do you ever understand any point or do you just randomly throw out whatever mindless thing pops into your head?
The point is the new low in ice volume and extent. The arctic ice remaining in summer has a HUGE impact on the climate over North America.
When it disappears entirely (probably by 2030 at the latest), you will not recognize the climate that results. All that water absorbing solar radiation at 95% rather than reflecting about 90% will be a game changer. And the effect of no summer ice on winter ice, as well as extent DURING the spring melt and fall freeze will also have impacts. The amount of ice at any point will change which changes the amount of solar radiation heating the poles. This will change the difference in temperatures that drives wind patterns. Now go back to your knitting. Let the grown ups deal with it.
You mean that less ice in the summer leads to milder winters in the northern hemisphere. As for your claims that I would not recognize the resulting climate is based on climate models that so far have a dismal track record. A record that is worse than if they had used a monkey and a dart board.

As for letting the grown ups deal with it. How about letting those who are able to reason rather than those who are responding emotionally. People like you who are acting hysterically. People who have also examined the past and noticed people like you were making similar claims back in the late fifties and early sixties. Claims that we would not recognized the climate. Funny thing is that in the the seventies the same people were warning of an approaching ice age. That if we didn't change that huge areas of farmland would be buried in ice and snow.

So, maybe you should learn how to knit since you have shown a marked lack of ability to do proper research. Then again, proper research would mean you would learn that they sky isn't falling. That those doom and gloom models are often wrong. Usually because the people writing them are not very knowledgeable when it comes to writing them and really do not understand what is happening.

No, "Global Warming" has never been a problem. The human component of the recent warming isn't as much as you guys claim. Most of the effects of a warmer world with more CO2 will be postive. Selling a warmer climate as a catastrophic disaster is ultimately a fool's mission.

You really don't understand the dynamics of climate, do you? You think that eliminating the arctic sea ice will just result in MILD conditions???

The DIFFERENCE in temperatures is what drives climate. And the results will be neither uniform in space not consistent in time.

But I am trying to teach a horse to sing. Time to move on..

Yes, but some will continue to try and teach a horse to sing and I will continue to point out that climate change isn't going to be that horrible thing you are braying.

As for understanding the dynamics of climate, one could say that you do not. You seem to missed the history of the subject. Which can only hinder your ability to understand the subject. Then again what you are talking about is less understanding the dynamics and more about indoctrination.

The difference in temperature is the result of something that has been happening for over a eon.

You're the fool.

Ask those ranchers in Texas if warmer is better for their herds.

Ask those farmers in Kansas how much good that "plant food" is doing their corn.

We've got global warming now and it's a problem.

Of the few semi-intelligent ones left, has any alarmist seen a "babble" pattern here yet?
And, are you all too frightened to tell him?

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Cancer

You have stars in your eyes and you're in a really romantic mood today. Your idea of heaven is to be with that special person in your life, preferably doing something very nice. If you meet someone new or a relationship gets off the ground today, things will always be rather dreamy and otherworldly between you. It will be as though real life, with all its problems, never intrudes on your time together.
