Aquarius wrote: <quoted text> Where do you think the word "Christian" comes from? If the name for the Morman religion is The Church of Jesus CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints, I would think they are followers of Jesus Christ or Christians. That's a fallacious assumtion. Study some logic. And Mormons, for many reasons, are NOT Christians, and NO Christian denomination that I'm aware of recognizes them as such. And until recently, Mormons themselves claimed that they were NOT Christians.

Not all followers of Yeshua ever subscribed to the Saulian, Irenaean, Athanasian, Cyrillian, Cappodocian, etc. heresies that led up to the Nicene heresies upon which christendom based itself ... and which in ignorance you, 1700yrs later, take for granted. The original message was far simpler ... if one can see it in it's Jewish context. Simple as that.

Followers of Jesus Christ are Christians Mormans are followers of Jesus Christ Therefore Mormans are Christians.

There is MORE to being a Christian than just being "Followers of Jesus Christ" as you put it. FOR ONE THING, one MUST be monotheistic and worship Yahweh, the God that ALL Christians, Jews and Muslims worship. Mormons are NOT monotheistic, and do NOT worship Yahweh. That fact alone, amongst others, disqualifies them from being Christians. This is WHY no other Christian denomination recognizes them as Christians. Many Christian denominations such as my own, The Lutheran Church (ELCA), the Roman Catholic Church, and others, SPECIFICALLY TEACH that Mormons are NOT Christians for this very reason. Another reason is their practice of "baptism by proxy", i.e. baptizing dead Jews to make them Christians. Thsi si a well-known Mormon practice, which many Jews, AND the State Of Israel, strenuously object to, and the baptism of dead Jews, and other dead, by proxy, is NOT a Christian sacrament, nor tradition. It is a DISTINCTLY UN-Christian practice. Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists are Not Christians. Neither are Mormons. It's as simple as that.

What has happened to the Jesus Christ that I grew up learning about? That Jesus taught love and acceptance. He scorned hatefulness and greed. I'm sorry, folks, but your current "Jesus" - the one that seems to be giving so many people the right to be judgmental and promote hatred - is something far different from different that what I remember. What would be worse in the eyes of Christ? A loving, compassionate, caring homosexual or a hate-filled, unforgiving hetrosexual? I'm curious as to which of these souls He would condemn.

Those of you who are saying Gay Rights are open to debate would not say so of any other minority group. What you fail to grasp is that being Gay is not a choice. Being Gay is not an illness.

Followers of "Christ" are "christians", though really they should be called "Saulians". Either way, history does not show this to be any sort of recommendation.

It is a DISTINCTLY UN-Christian practice. Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists are Not Christians. Neither are Mormons. It's as simple as that. The religious sects you mention, Jews, etc, are not Christians because they do not believe in Jesus Christ. You may be right that Mormon's do not worship God, the Father, but I think they do. How could you be a follower of Christ and not believe in God the Father? Christ always referred to God, and spoke in a subservient way when speaking of his Father. I, personally, would not belong to the Morman Church for other reasons. A bit too much togetherness for me. And, they are very religious. It would be difficult for me to be really religious all the time. But, I couldn't be born again either, as so many Christians are, for that same reason. I don't think either Obama or Romney are ready to shelve globalization and bring jobs back to this country from other countries all over the world. Except for emergency situations, I don't think the US should be lending money to countries all over the world either. We are broke. I'd like to see whoever is elected deduct the money China owes us from WWII + interest from the amount we owe them. They back away....."Oh, no we couldn't do that !!"

Brad Pitt's mother wasn't condemning homosexuals. She strongly disagrees with gay marriage. I agree with her. Marriage is for a man and a woman. She probably has no problem with all or most of the legal solutions gays are requesting. I agree with you that Jesus loves all. I have heard many Christians speak judgmentally about gays. I don't agree with that attitude.
