A breakdown in democracy?

My faith in the democratic process has faded over the years. Since Al Gore 's election loss, I have grave doubts that important decisions can be trusted to an American majority.

Hey...Frank....GET OFF YOUR SOAPBOX!!! They are just comics man! Worry about something more important, like the democrats not wanting to vote on important issues by going on vacation while Republicans stayed behind to fight for their people!

I guess the majority doesn't agree with you on anything. That's what Democracy is all about.
Incidentally we're not a Democracy, we're a Democratic Republic.

They never were [entrusted to a majority], you turkey. This is a REPUBLIC (or it was supposed to be), NOT a democracy. There's a difference. It's why we elect representatives but don't vote on making laws. Thank God.

Having a democratic style of government means WE the People decide WHO will make the decisions. We don't text in our decisions. That's American Idol in case you quit school before the 5th grade.

Yes, we decide who makes the decisions. We have not decided so well lately. We need to truly decide who stays and who goes. 550 people in government run this country of 300 million. When did the inmates start running the asylum?

Just an odd letter.

And Al Gore actually won the popular vote, didn't he? So that disproves the letter right there.

HA HA HA HA !inspite of his inventing the internet and designing a way to make money on people exhaling CO2 poor Al didn't make the cut. But at the same time you voted for other cartoon characters but failed to let us know who you DID vote for. Why not? Some of them might end up as the next Dem presidential candidate. At least they are more real than Obama. And they have a sense of humor about themselves.

How about the dangerous advice from Dear Abby's relativist authoress. You have to be a real twit to ask advice from someone that clueless.

"I have grave doubts that important decisions can be trusted to an American majority." Frank Mittman.

Frank, sounds like you are the one out of touch with the regular American people.

Your arrogance and messiah complex rivals that of your Messiah, Nobama.

It seems you don't agree with the Majority and sounds like you prefer a Communist state rather than a free state where each voters vote counts.

Another American system of government hater. That is America was designed as a free market capitalist system, a constitutional republic with limited governent.

Well, if you have your way, I'll just call you comrade. It really fits.

Evidently ol' Frank takes his comics pretty seriously! Nice to see that he voted for SOMEthing, even if it was only something as harmless and trivial as the comic page of a local newspaper. Sure hope he's informed and ready for the Presidential elections this fall! The Family Circus might have some election coverage results and analysis for him to read...

Hey Guys,
I wrote this letter tongue in cheek. The comics section is the one section of the paper I look forward to reading every day. It concerned me that any comic had to be cut, but I do understand the constraints of business. What bothered me most was after the vote was tabulated the comics that remained were the ones I found least interesting. Oh, by the way, I did graduate fifth grade. I have my moving up certificate to prove it.

Stop being a total idiot, you Clod. If you had actually completed 5th grade you would know we are supposed to have a "representative democracy." The theory is the PEOPLE elect representatives who then REPRESENT them in the judicial and legislative branches. But, ya know, only in theory.

Shouldn't opinions like this be in German, and goose-stepping about. Just another terrified Libertarian calling his xenophobia, classism and racism patriotism.

Jeeez, guys--lighten up! Ol' Frank TOLD you he wrote 'tongue-in-cheek'! Don't have such a hissy-fit. Good Googly Moogly--you northern fellas get too serious about stuff like this. Take a break--relax--sip some bourbon and coke. It's good for your blood pressure. Or not. After two or three drinks, who cares.:-)
