barefoot2626 wrote: <quoted text> It was not illegal to own a hand gun in DC. HE LIED. The law put (what SCOTUS determined to be) unconstitutional restrictions on those who owned guns (that they be stored (e.g.) with trigger locks). DC was using registration to essentially outlaw handguns. They would not register them. That is my understanding.

Initially, D.C. just flat outlawed the possession of handguns, and very severely limited what other guns one could keep in his home. After the Heller decision, the D.C. city council machinated over how to make it next to impossible to obtain a permit just to keep a pistol in one's house. They still very stubbornly refused to allow concealed carry. Further, they placed stringent limits upon which brands and models were 'acceptable,' and those not. All of that, you understand, was, and is still being done on purpose. It is a known tactic used by those intent upon removing individual rights, to very cleverly write laws in such a way as to make it necessary for the individual citizens to spend lots of time and money challenging the constitutionality of the law, and then include a severability clause which leaves the unchallenged portions intact to still be used against the people, and just waiting around to be added to later. D.C. isn't referred to a the 'District of Criminals' for nothing.

eternal cynic wrote: <quoted text> Yes, Jefferson did write that. Jefferson also stated "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms..disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one." - Thomas Jefferson etc..etc.. Guns and False Quotes March 20, 2011 “False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils, except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes….Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”(Thomas Jefferson) This was not a quote by Jefferson as many on the net have asserted. He compiled a book of quotes called,“Legal Commonplace Book.” The quote is actually from Cesare Beccaria’s Essay on Crimes and Punishments. The only notation made by Jefferson on Beccaria’s quote is,“False idee di utilità.” or …false idea of utility. It should not be attributed to Thomas Jefferson unless one’s philosophy allows for the sophistry of ‘false ideas’. See this reference: http://www.monticello.org/site/research-and-c... etc...

PS: If you want to post stories of the actions of a FEW firearm owners, I am going to post the stories of a few MORE TYPICAL firearm owners. A gun in the home is more likely to be used *ON* someone *in* the home than the burglar climbing though the window. That is wonderful liberal folk lore you are pushing, there! Too bad there are no FACTS to back up your statements as usual. Just like your "guns kill more than cars" thing you had to get schooled on. But you liberals just keep lying to each other. You liberals are buying your own BS.

I watched a movie called "Rampage" tonight. It reminded me of the Colorado shooting. James Holmes wore a swat suit just like the guy in Rampage. The guy in the movie had red hair James dyed his red. I think he got his inspiration to kill like he did from this movie.

People who mass murder need to be studied to see if it begins in childhood and if intervention techniques can be developed.

It also shows you have never been anywhere near the east end of Newport News, VA late on a Saturday night. And why do you continue to avoid the challenge put forth to you. Please point out the wording in the 2nd Amendment where it specifically deals with any limit on type or quantity of weapons "the people" may possess. Since you don't have the GUTS to answer it honestly, I will for you. The answer is: The 2nd Amendment says NOTHING with regard to type of weapons or limits on quantity OF ANY KIND. Who is the one "pretending" now??
