I dunno. I took a look at your site. Not at all certain how exactly they are coming up with estimates of national average IQ. It talks about a number of studies (60 odd as I recall) from different countries. Gets dicey making comparisions between multiple estimates that may be using completely different methodologies.

Based on an assumption of random distribution of IQs, it would be reasonable to set the average for any population at 100--really just defining what 100 means. Now, when you get to something like 115 for college grads or 85 for African-Americans, you start to get into all kinds of issues--such as whether anyone actually took measures of those groups, or if these are just guesstimates. And if based on actual measures, then the question of what the measurement instrument is actually measuring. Is it actually measuring intelligence, or does it rely on learning? Does the test measure equally well across cultures--or does it rely on questions/information that might well differ from culture to culture.

There was some interesting work post WWII aimed at developing more accurate measures of IQ based on a person's ability to actually learn something. This was because there were children arriving in Israel who had spent years in hiding--untaught. Tradition measures that relied on testing what a child knows--in comparison to what some normed group knows at the same age--were useless because the experience had been so different.

So--is it true? Big grain of salt on that one.

BTW--it looks like the researcher was using the average IQ/nation numbers to see if it could account for differences in wealth of nations. Apparently IQ could account for only one third. While in research terms, that's a pretty big chunk, it still leaves 2/3 of other factors (that determine wealth) unaccounted for.

Which leaves Bush with 44 months of negative growth. The last 44 months. The ones where his policies were having a real impact. Obama has shown steady growth since he took office and those numbers are again on the positive side. Republicans might be right calling him the Messiah. Considering the economy President Obama had to start with, and the fact that he has had to fight the Republicans every inch of the way, what he has accomplished is truly a miracle.
